Absolutely, the whole season has been gravy, but come on! They're so close! They've earned it! To lose out now would be heartbreaking!

The Flames are out of gas..... Their hits/game as a team over the season so far 75 games is 22. The last 4 games 11-11-12-16.
LA over the season 32.5 / game last 4 games 40,42,19,34
Wpg over the season 30 last 4 games 28,39,29,38
Minnesota 16.1/game last 4 7 (against the Flames),23,33,16
Vancouver 19.3 and last 4 16,19,26,32
ALL the teams that are fight for the last play off spot are hitting more than they have for the whole season except for the Flames.
People are saying the Flames are not looking strong over the last while..... they have fallen off on their compete level.
Might be sign that they are worn down or dressing a small lineup.

Canucks and Kings losing tonight would be ideal.
Best-case scenario after tomorrow night (Games Remaining in brackets):
Vancouver - 90 (7)
Winnipeg - 90 (6)
Calgary - 89 (6)
Los Angeles - 88 (7)

One good thing is the last games of the season are against the teams we need to catch. So long as we can get back into striking distance of either of them by those games then all we need to do is win the head-to-head and we're in.

I'd put our chances at about 45%. Tomorrow we could be in a playoff spot. From what I've seen all teams have slowed down a bit and I don't think the Jets and Kings can keep up the pace of getting 7 or 8 points of a possible 10. I think it'll come down to our final couple games against L.A and WPG

Sure would be nice if the Flames could win 4 of these next 5 games, and have the last 2 really mean something.

Given the roster of smaller than average veterans the Flames had to work with at the beginning of the season, Hartley's successful strategy of out working, out blocking, and just hanging in games waiting for their better conditioning to capitalize on late chances has got them this far. Unfortunately as the playoffs approach the officiating gets more lenient, all the players have hit their stride (are in the groove), and the bigger/heavier teams impose their will to dominate smaller rule abiding opponents (Flames).
Burke & Treveling know this, are trying to address it in drafting, fa acquisitions, and player development. The Flames have overachieved to be where they are now, but for guys like Monahan, Gaudreau, Bouma, Brodie, they will understand which type of future teammates will help them get to the next level (big, NHL talent). Ferland, Poirier, Shore, Bennett, Rafikov, and if any of Kanzig, Smith, VanBrabant, or Wolf can contribute at this level they will have the ability to impose their will at this time of the season.
Very exciting times.

And yet no Resolute snark / Face plant or other indication of exasperation with this simple and accurate observation of the Flames limiting characteristic gets by?

The Kings, of all teams, play a no-hitter (11 hits) and lose to Minnesota.
The long playoff grind of playing physical taking its toll, or did they all of the sudden think they were just to talented to have to play that style.
