Anyone care to help a southern California member out
Hi there,
I am wondering if someone on here could give me a hand with purchasing a pair of hockey gloves on Kijiji in Calgary. I have contacted the seller but is not interested in mailing them down to the states.
I would be willing to pay the cost of gloves, shipping to the US and extra for your time and gas used. I would send payment to you via Paypal prior to everything.
Here is the link to the ad:

I know I am a new member with no posts, but I can give you my screen name on another forum with feedback from sales.
Please let me know if you can help me out.
Thank you for your time,
Greg K
::UPDATE:: 4/20 Gloves have been delivered. Thank you to Jon and his wife for helping me out. Awesome people.

You're going to pay time and gas for someone to drive a pair of gloves to Cali?

The skeptical side of me says.... "wow paypal scam level 99!"
The other side says, "Well, this is a pair of Alex Kotalik game worn gloves. There can't be a ton of those out there. Maybe legit?"
The the other side chimes back in and says..."LOL, yeah right, like anyone wants a pair of Alex Kotalik game worn gloves. HA!"

I don't see any red flags here at all. I mean the guy is a brand new member who apparently lives in Long Beach and wants to get some Kotalik paraphernalia. It makes total sense that a guy living in California is a huge Kotalik fan, when you think about it. Who amongst us doesn't want those gloves? Don't you all remember those magical 11 goals he scored here?
Can you imagine wearing them out to play ball hockey or whatever next week and just tearing it up? That would be great. Really all the risk is on the OP here, because he could send you the money, you buy the gloves and before sending them to him you decide to play "just once" in them. Maybe you manage to have that vaunted two point night and then there's no way you're sending them to him after that!
Plus he seems like he would be willing to pay for gas, postage and everything else. In fact the only thing he hasn't said (yet) is that he will send extra for your troubles. I would be all over this myself, except that I'm busy that day.

I get being skeptical, but I have to say it seems pretty unlikely a typical scammer from California is going to locate a pretty obscure Calgary Flame collectible, and then come over and register on this forum. It would be a pretty unique scam if it was. I don't know that there are any more legit options for an American to send a Canadian money than Paypal either.

I'll do this for you.
You send me the money via PayPal, I'll go pick up the gloves. I would then wait until after the 45 day (or however long it is) Paypal dispute period before shipping them to you, just to cover my own arse, and then ship them to you.

If he sends the PayPal payment as a "gift" then, as far as I know, it can't be disputed. I've already contacted him via email and am working on doing this for him. Not a huge deal on my end. My wife might think otherwise though as I'm out of town for the week and making her go pick the gloves up
So, I ran through worst case scenarios of doing this and can only think of one.
Here's my question:
Before shipping these...Could I bring the gloves to the cop shop, explain the situation, and ask them for a dog to sniff the gloves or xray them to make sure I'm not sending drugs trans-border? That's really the only ulterior motive I can imagine. Happy to help the guy out, and it seems legit enough, but I still wanna cover my own ass.

His lack of comments is what would worry me. If I was "legit" I'd be responding to each of these responses above.
