It will be very disappointing, but I, and I hope and assume the rest of you, will still be very proud of the boys for their effort and fight.
That being said: Win and we're in. Johnny says we make it, so I say we make it.

I for one am just happy this thread even exists this year, and started at the end of March, no less.

Let me help you with that:

From the dictionary: Disappointed: Fail to fulfill the expectations of (someone): I have no wish to disappoint everyone by postponing the visit.

If you expected them to make the playoffs than you don't know anything about hockey. Even Aaron Ward said they would surprise. That means it was not expected.

I said I would be bummed. But absolutely nothing about this tream has disappointed me. I go to lots of games, and this bunch (from an effort standpoint) has been better in every reasonable way since day one of the rebuild.

Sorry, that's just my opinion.

Don't apologize! I was just thinking more in the colloquial use of the word, to describe a feeling. I agree, I won't be disappointed in the sense that expectations won't be met....but I will be bummed.

With the loss to the Wild tonight, it is becoming obvious that this team is not in the same class as the teams fighting for the final playoff spots.

What REALLY sucks is that we will miss the playoffs by about 1-2 points. While we make fun of tank-nation....finishing in 9th is the worst thing that can happen.

No. It's really not. As any rebuild progresses, your going to have a season where you finish just out of the playoffs. Finishing 9th or finishing 8th and getting destroyed in the first round are pretty equal when looking at the big picture here

If we miss we will win McDavid with our 1% chance.

The Flames will miss the playoffs by a hair. Flames fans will be mad and Oilers fans will be happy. Then the Flames will win the draft lottery. Then Flames fans will be happy and Oilers fans will be mad. It's gonna happen, folks. The hockey gods owe the Flames for rebuilding honestly, god dammit.

With or without a playoff spot, this team has been incredibly entertaining this season, and has vastly outperformed anyones expectations. Even if we miss, we finally have a light at the end of the tunnel. It would almost be emotionally easier for them to miss, than get in and destroyed in the first round.

The future is bright regardless of the end result.

It will be extremely disappointing. Especially because Gio would have been as he was a difference maker in these tight games.
I would say it is very probable that he would have helped the Flames to at least 6-8 more points.

No it's not - not if there were productive reasons for it.

This season provided immeasurable experience for all the young guys.

Monahan's progression has been phenomenal.

Gaudreau has become a top line player.

Brodie, Russell and Wideman all took their games to new levels.

Bouma is quickly becoming Bobby Nystrom.

Jooris, Granlund, Ferland, Shore, and Wolf have all benefitted from being around the team, the winning attitude, and the work ethic.

Every team has a 50-man roster. The problem with tanking is that you stop trying to improve your team. The Oilers and Sabers have AVOIDED improving their teams since before Christmas.

Any team that isn't improving is falling behind. And for teams like the Oilers, they spend 6 of every 12 months avoiding improvement.

That's why the Flames' rebuild has been faster (though it's far from over)

I would argue that the injury to Gio is starting to show in the minutes played by our top 3 dmen and the mistakes they are making. That and out offence has dried up at the wrong time of the season.

We have a solid base of players and prospects going forward. It gives the fans great hope for the future and many years to come.

Regardless of weather we make the playoffs or not this season has been a huge success. We have seen growth in our players and a work ethic that makes us the envy of many teams in the league.

We have great character on this team and that's a foundation you want to build a team on. The players have had to deal with injuries and a media that had us fighting for McDavid. We proved the critics wrong and made believers of not just our fans but of others around the league.

How are the Flames not in the same class as the teams fighting for the final playoff spots? I think the Flames are in the same class as the Canucks and the Jets. Sure, if the Kings and Wild are playing at their best, I don't think the Flames can beat them, but it isn't about potential. After 74/75 games, the Flames are 1 point back of the Kings and were ahead of them in the standings for a long period of time. The Flames are in the same class because they are in a very similar position in the standings.

Yes it REALLY sucks if this team misses the playoffs by about 1-2 points and finishing 9th is the worst thing that can happen to the Flames RIGHT NOW because they were in a position to make the playoffs and they would have come so close. Besides, it would really help our young guys if they can experience playoff hockey. But this team has exceeded all expectations. And let's stop being so negative. This team is still capable of making this playoffs.

Extremely dissapointed if they don't make it. I feel the same way every year they don't make it.

Objectively, not disappointing at all. If you had told us in October that the Flames would be competing for anything other than the right to draft Connor McDavid at the end of March, no one would have believed it.

This year, we have seen Sean Monahan emerge as a 30 goal scorer as a 20 year old. Johnny Gaudreau is a Calder Trophy candidate, the first the Flames have had in a decade. TJ Brodie has solidified his status as a top pairing NHL defenseman, while Mark Giordano probably would have been a shoe-in for the Norris Trophy had he stayed healthy. Lance Bouma and Josh Jooris have been pleasant surprises. Poirier, Ferland, Bennett, Wotherspoon and Ortio all look ready to take the next step in 2015-16. The team as a whole has exceeded expectations from the start. None of this will change should the Flames miss the playoffs.

Subjectively, it would probably hurt more for the Flames to miss the playoffs this year, after all they've accomplished, than the past two years, where they were never really in the race.

I'm extremely proud of them either way, but will be very disappointed, considering it looked quite probable we were going to get in not long ago at all. Stupid Minnesota post-ASG playoff push, meaning there was going to be one odd team left out.

That said, it's less disappointing for me by the fact that this may be the most competitive bubble push ever, the WC bubble teams have been dominating even the President's Trophy contenders. It's extremely frustrating, but helps take away the sting of disappointment a bit for me. We're still playing well, but everyone around us have somehow gone into Terminator mode, what can you do? It's ridiculous

Funny, my dictionary defines it this way:

Quote:
disappointed
adjective

sad or displeased because someone or something has failed to fulfil one's hopes or expectations
(Boldface added.)

If this team misses the playoffs, naturally it will fail to fulfil my hopes, and you're darned right I'll be disappointed. But they have already exceeded my expectations, which is why I won't be crossing the line from disappointment into blame.

This year has been a glorious drama.
Despite ; multiple injuries to key players , "less talented" roster , unsustainable playing style , Corsi/Fenwick numbers
This has been the most entertaining year of hockey since the BOA was a real battle.
Rookies shining , goalies stealing games , veterans having career years , multiple comebacks in the third , a coach who has the players trust (and is entertaining as hell)

The disappointment would stick with me all summer , but I will wear the flaming C proudly once again , and never have to say " I'm a long suffering fan" when people ask

But no melancholy for me just yet , cause we are not done yet .down by two points 7 games left . bring it on !
