The Flames' interest in this kid aside, I'm loving the fact that Treliving is addressing organizational needs through college UFAs. Whether they work out or not, at least he's trying.
Morrison and Yvenko are right-handed defenseman and Baun is a right-handed RW.
I honestly believe that in the next 10-15 yrs successful teams with be those that were able to access all avenues of talent, draft, college, unsigned players, Europe based players.
It really shows that the Flames mgt are willing to think outside the box to stock pile talented players.
At the end of the day these players may not play on the Flames, but there is nothing wrong with having a deep organization, it allows you so many options when it comes to building your team.

Calgary's efforts of the past few years with college kids sure seems to have us as a desired landing spot for many of these kids....great news and work by the organization.
It would be cool to get him. I am still disappointed a little that we couldn't land Kevin Hayes last year.
I wish we had gotten Hayes too. To me he looks like a stronger prospect than Baun.
We suddenly have a lot more prospects & young players with RH shots: Morrison, Shore, Jooris, Smith and Carroll have all been added in the last calendar year. They could all be NHL ready very soon as well. If Baun is as good or better than any of the forwards listed above then I hope we sign him. If he's not any better than I don't see the point.
I'm always leary of any rumour that lists 50% or so of Canadian teams interested. Its such a great way to gain traffic or create a buzz to get Canadian fan bases involved.
If it was Cgy, Columbus and Tampa or something I'd take more interest.
I think its called the "Dreger"
Well writers don't have equal contacts to every team. A Canadian writer might have knowledge mostly of Canadian teams.

I'd just like to see a whole bunch of teams sign college free agents, but the Oilers get no one to sign.
Oh, but it's actually a good thing that these college guys won't sign with them, it means that they are so deep that the players don't believe they'll have a chance to crack the lineup any time soon.
Friedman on 960 says he is also hearing the Blackhawks and Flyers are going after Baun pretty hard.
Also said Baun likely wants to burn a year which puts the Flames at a disadvantage because they can't tell Hartley to dress a guy fresh out of the NCAA when they are fighting for the playoffs.
I think Morrison has the right idea, so much good things said about current group in Calgary, everyone he talked said its great city/team, track record the last 3 years of the team giving solid opportunity to eager and motivated young players, he fills an organizational need which could allow him to crack the NHL line-up quicker if he does what it seems he confident he'll be able to do. Baun can check every single one of those boxes and if he shows a bit of patience I think he'd be smart to come on board to the Flames org. My Nickle (no more cents!) anyways.
“Well, he’s making that final decision over the next day or two. Right now Kyle Baun, a forward with the Colgate University team, has 16 formal offers on the table from NHL teams. The Calgary Flames, the Winnipeg Jets are amongst those that are believed to have significant interest in Baun’s services.
“Baun hasn’t officially decided that he’s going to forego his senior year at Colgate just yet. He’s got to make that decision in the next 12-24 hours. There’s more offers floating in as we talk. Could get up to 18 or 19, I would expect.
“By Wednesday of this week Baun will have a final decision.”
