Thought we were fortunate to get out of the game with 2 points. Maybe just my nerves, but felt like the A s had the better chances tonight but we got all the puck luck. I did however feel like the Avs got all the ref luck, a lot of non calls that benefited the Avs tonight.
At this point in the season though a win is a win, kudos to the boys for getting it done!
Flames generally held their own. Although there were a few Chinese fire drills in our d zone between moments of good hockey & a dumb goal so I understand your impression.

Did anyone else see Gaudreau take the puck out of the zone. Take a defender to centre ice then turn on a dime and completely lose him then turns up the speed and maybe hit the post? Saw it live would love to see a clip again

This x 1,000,000. It needs to go to a 3-2-1-0 point system. And the argument that it would mess with the historical aspect of the league is beyond weak. Times change and the game has changed, adapt! You think Gretzky would put up 200+ points in a season, playing against the players/goalie we have nowadays? Not a chance.
You could implement the same system without even touching the historical point total argument. Just make every game worth 2 points and OT/SO winners/losers get 1.5/0.5 points respectively. Every other sport already has decimals in their standings so no reason why the NHL couldn't do the same
Late to the party as I was at the game...
It looked like their were a handful of questionable calls. Most notably, the offside on the flames in the third when they held possession.
For those watching on TV - was the officiating solid or was it as lopsided as it appeared at the game?
Also worth noting was the slash/hook call against the flames 20 seconds after Johny was assaulted with a hook in the hands.
Refs were turrible...didn't matter if you were at the game, watching it on tv, or viewing it with a telescope from mars it would have appeared the same
If Wild the win out all their games (except for the one against the Flames), and the Nucks do they same, Flames are pretty much in. At this point, I'm cheering for the Canucks and Wild when they play the Jets and Kings.
Yep. It looks like this basically boils down to us or LA now.
Any combo of us winning 5 and them losing 4 gets us in at this point if my math is right. Any team playing LA right now is my favourite team. Be it Vancouver or Edmonton.
I just hop the Sharks, Oilers and Avs, decide to go into spoiler mode now. Those are the games that concern me. Especially the Oilers. With them facing the Kings with 3 games left, I can see a lot of audition players in the roster.
A play I enjoyed, was Engelland tripping on himself, then crashing/checking a player (Think it was in the 3rd and I couldn't see who he hit). Varly slapping his stick on the ice on PP in the 1st (I think) and then we getting a breakaway was good stuff too.
I wasn't happy about Jooris shoved into the net twice.
Lance Bouma is the definition of warrior. He does everything.
That goal scored was my favorite tonight. He played it smart. At first it looks he's got nobody to pass to so he shot backhand rather than just throw the puck to the board. Then they got the rebound and Bouma headed in front of the net to try to block Varlamov's view and he ended up tipping in the puck for a goal. I wish the other players will do the same rather than just blasting the puck somewhere. The Bouma-Backlund-Jones line played a heck of a game. I thought the 4th line played well again but the same thing, didn't get any luck in scoring a goal or two. Monahan line was good. All the Flames now is for the 3rd liner to get some good chances and score. Granlund was good too. Hartley's crew made the right decision again in starting Karri Ramo. I really like this you play when you are hot thing. I like that no matter who starts will give us a chance to win. Ramo and Hiller are a treat to have for the Flames and I like them both. I still like Ramo better though but just my preference. Back in the days that the Flames rely on Kipper then when they have to give him a rest, we have to pray that the backup can steal a win for us.
Anyways good game for the Flames. I still can't figure out why the Avs are outside looking in. They have some fast and talented forwards and they have a good goaltender. The only question mark I think is their defense. I never even heard of some of their defensemen other than Brad Stuart and Hedja. Maybe I don't follow the Avs games much and I didn't even know how good that young Tyson Barrie was until tonight. 9 more games and the Flames have to control their own destiny because they are not getting much help from anyone.
Fun little thing that nobody really saw. Occasionally the team brings families into the media room for post-game, typically so the kids can get to see the reporters scrambling to hit deadline (and watch the presser with Hartley). Bob introduced himself to the little kid and invited him up to the podium to do the presser with him. Really nice little thing that the kid will probably be talking about for years.
Oh, and they played a pretty solid game, too. Third period was quite good. Second was bad.
It was Bouma-Granlund-Jones and Jooris-Backlund-Colborne tonight. But yeah, Bouma and Jones were on.
I was somewhat shocked to see that line only played 9+ minutes. Seemed like they were out there a lot more. Stajan and Bollig have been great lately.
