Big time, way more skill than I expected. He's a franchise player.

His draft year he was getting comparisons to Eric Staal. In terms of development speed, he's lived up to that projection. Although I think Monahan is a different player from Eric Staal. Considering I was hoping for Barkov to drop, I'm so very glad he didn't.

He was a top 6 pick in a deep draft year. Probably would've gone #1 a couple of the years the Oilers had the top pick. Could've arguably gone top 3-5 in his draft year too. I don't think I'd trade him for Drouin, Barkov or Lindholm at this point.
He was projected as a two-way playmaking/scoring #1 centre and that projection appears to be accurate.
Funny how for so long we were looking for a #1 centre and now we may have two of them down the road.

at what point in the season did he, Hudler and Gaudreau start playing together?
(curious about where on the above chart the 'top line' appears)

I simply never expect a 19 year or 20 year old player to step in and become instant 20-30 goal scorers... no matter how high they are drafted.
I figured that Monahan would get there, but I didn't expect instant success like that.

When you put two dynamic, crazy talented young guys together you definitely increase the odds.

I thought pie in the sky was Toews. And he is on pace for that. 25 to 30 goals per year while facing the top defensive matchmups.
I thought he'd be a number 2 center on a championship team (so really a 1b) but to be a championship team that the flames would need a 1A.
The Toews trajectory is still on track (and comes with a Stanley Cup next year). He is turning into a defensively responsible player who still puts up points.
So put me down for getting there much faster than expected.

Can you imagine time travelling Monahan back to play with Iginla (or vice versa). With Johnny as well?

(working with that assumption...)
First 43 games: 11G, 14A, 25P, 0.58PPG
Last 29 games: 18G, 11A, 29P, 1.00PPG

The linemates definitely have had a massive impact on his production. Even look at Sean's rookie production last year on the before Sven got axed:
First 24 games: 9G, 6A, 0.63PPG
Final 51 games: 13g, 6A, 0.37PPG
Just get him the puck in his spots and he will score. I won't be surprised if he maintains this pace into next season and actually gets near the 50 goal mark, as lofty as that sounds.

Chose option #1. The only revelation has been his penchant for clutch goal scoring at such an early age. But his determination from draft day served notice to how impactful he may be.
The Flames got themselves a Bergeron level of player. If those Ron Francis references pan out, the mother of god meme will need to be put up.

I feel like 50 may still be a stretch. I'm not gonna discount the possibility of Sean ever hitting 50, but for now I think it's best we temper our expectations and expect a yearly 25-30 goal scorer. The kid obviously has a knack for being both clutch and always being in the right place at the right time - if he scores 25 every year I'm satisfied. And I think it's definitely possible for him.
I'll even take 20 goals every year. Sounds too little for him though.

The other night I envisioned a scenario where the Flames finish just out of the POs , we're all sad and then the Flames win the lottery.
WTH would happen? You don't play any of those guys on the 3rd or 4th line, so Bennett on the wing with McDavid? Backlund at 3rd C? A trade of Bennett (I say no way)?

I'm insane. I'd trade down from 1st OA and sell to the highest bidder in the top 10. Except EDM. They cannot bid. You could trade down 4 or 5 spots and get precisely what you need (Provorov, Hanafin, Marner etc....) and add more assets in whetever else someone would add on.
I wouldn't move away from Monahan and Bennett for my life. I think the Dymanic between the two is going to be lights out for a decade.

I had no idea who he was after we drafted him. Not much flash, figured we had a #2 centre. After watching almost every game these past two seasons, I'm enthralled. The kid is a stud. So consistent, so clutch, so DAMN GOOD!
