Gerrard, Balotelli, Skrtel ... let's just say that today's game did nothing to make me like Liverpool a bit more.
Important victory.

If Atkinson says he missed the Skrtel stamp he's gone for three games as well.

I'm a Liverpool fan, but have to admit those two images are pretty funny.
I guess I'll also share a comment I read on another website... "It's fitting that Gerrard is heading to Hollywood soon, because today, he was Gone in 60 Seconds"

as expected. 3 game ban for Skrtel.
Quote:
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has been charged with violent conduct over an alleged stamp on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. The incident happened in injury time during the Reds' 2-1 Premier League defeat at Anfield on Sunday.
The Slovakia international, 30, has to respond by 18:00 GMT on Tuesday and the offence carries a three-match ban. Referee Martin Atkinson did not see the incident but three former officials agreed it was a sending-off offence. The trio made the decision after reviewing footage of the incident.
Unless Skrtel successfully appeals he will be banned for Liverpool's Premier League matches at Arsenal (4 April) and at home to Newcastle (April 13), plus the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn on 8 April. Captain Steven Gerrard will also miss those matches after his red card 38 seconds after coming on as a half-time substitute in the same game.

Well, that game was basically an unmitigated disaster.

So Skrtel apparently denies violent conduct and appeals the ban. What a stupid move ... if they think they can win this one, they are delusional IMO. I hope they add a 4th game to his ban.

He's just denying the charge as opposed to appealing a ban (which hasn't been handed out yet). Same as Evans.
He won't get any extra games but not a hope in hell he is found innocent given the charge was brought on the grounds of three former officials looking at the footage and determining it was a red card offense.
Rodger's comments on Costa's stamps in January.
Quote:
"With Emre, that was poor, I felt. He could easily hurdle over the young player and he directs his studs right on to his ankle, which could've been nasty. "And again the one with Martin. There's no need to do it. That's the sad thing of it. He's a top-class player and he's clever enough that the officials don't see it.
“It's easy to land somewhere else without having to land directly on an opponent's ankle and it's disappointing to see on the replay.
"It was poor from him. He doesn't need to do it. It wasn't good for the game.

On Skrtel
Quote:
I have seen the Martin Skrtel incident. The ball was played through but it probably looks worse in slow motion. It looks like he is trying to get a nick on the ball, to get a toe on it the ball went into the goalkeeper's hands.

Pathetic.

I wish we'd just accept it and let it go because it is a terrible play, but I can see where the reluctance to do so comes from. Costa's stamp on Skrtel earlier was pretty similar to this one and it went unpunished.
I just wish it would be more consistent. It is really difficult to tell if a player has done it on purpose or not, but I don't think that should really change the outcome. Its extremely dangerous to stick your spikes into another player, and its your job to mind where they go. I'm perfectly OK with a 3 game ban for that tackle.

I think that one is clear cut. There is ample opportunity to shorten his stride and he isn't even close.
I think they HAVE to be seen to be denying it given Rodger's post game comments when the smart move would have been to do a Wenger and just say he hadn't seen it and had no comment.

Phil Neville feels a generation of English talent is disappearing 'down a black hole' due to lack of opportunity.
Neville backs the proposals of FA chairman Greg Dyke to raise the English presence in Premier League squads.
For he thinks most English clubs do not have a clear pathway for their players to fulfil their potential.
Neville said: "Pumping millions into academies is superficial unless your manager buys into the vision of producing young players for your club."
He added: "I only see a few clubs in the Premier League now who actually see the vision all the way through.
"I see plenty who have a vision until the age academy football finishes. Then there is a massive black hole young players drop into and just get lost."

Couldn't agree more. Sure there is always room for the top players but there are a lot of average foreign players in the PL.

problem isn't the quota, I dont even really think its the clubs
I would put at least 80% of the blame on the FA, and I think they are working towards fixing it but it takes time, Germany made their changes in 2000 and didnt really see the benefits for a decade
the FA has made some good changes towards coaching kids in the 11-14 age range when it matters and we might not see any of that come to fruition until 2024/2026 but I do think it will

Another country heard from regarding Louis van Gaal, and that country is Bulgaria, those are some strong words....
Quote:
Hristo Stoichkov has hit out at Louis van Gaal, claiming the current Manchester United manager engineered his departure from Barcelona.
The Bulgaria legend played for Van Gaal briefly during the 1997-98 season, when Stoichkov had returned to the Camp Nou and the Dutchman had arrived from Ajax.
And Stoichkov, a forward who scored 314 goals in his club career, told L'Equipe: "I don't have any respect for him. He's a basterd.
"One day, when I was injured and I was with my wife at the Camp Nou, he went up to her and asked how it was possible to have married someone like me. She replied that I had won a Ballon d'Or..."
On whether his departure from Barca was due to Van Gaal, Stoichkov said: "Yes, that's certain, it was Van Gaal's fault."
