Raymond has been a liability lately, but he can heat up and score in bunches and has the speed and shot to be an offensive threat. Ferland deserves a lot of credit for how well he has played in the last couple of games, but he hasn't shown that he has the capacity to put up points and he lacks experience. I'm okay with this decision.

Gaudreau reminds me of Tangs quite a bit. Both extremely slippery players, no point in trying to 'drill' him cause you'll just end up looking foolish.

I think the fact Johnny back checks after he loses the puck every game distinguishes the two.

That could go away if he gets complacent but that is one thing Johnny has in spades.
The drive to make up for any mistakes.

This is what I love about Gaudreau, he fights to mop up his own battles. However, some have short memories here. When Tanguay came into the league, he was supremely skilled, not unlike Gaudreau, but also possessed that desire to make up for mistakes. Perhaps being quite a bit bigger than Gaudreau made a difference, but he was also very exuberant and quick to backcheck when he was a young member of the Avalanche. I think his transition to bona-fide first-line LW in the early 00's changed his checking play. The same may happen to Johnny, but let's hope not.
That being said, GO FLAMES GO! Big 2 points tonight, please.

And it's well established that Hartley was the one who got him to play that way. Nobody else has come close since.
Just one more reason why I love Hartley. Oh, and that quote from getbak above.

Hey Tanguay was my favorite Flame when he was here. I always said he was under appreciated. He was PPG for a bit if you recall.
He gets dumped on way too much for his defensive play. I wouldn't be surprised if once the rookie drive goes away, Gaudreau also slips up defensively.
All the more reason to keep Hartley as coach!

Johnny backchecks hard when the puck gets turned over (by him or someone else). But once the play is established in the D-zone he is not great. It's improving, but he still is not a big factor in getting the puck back.

He's been driven to succeed his whole life. I would actually be surprised if that changed and he "slips up defensively".

Wingers don't usually go back and grab the puck.. that's defense and centres. I think he's ok but his size does cost him at times when defenseman pinch down on him and he can't get it out (although he is getting better at getting lower so the d can't be right on him)

Oh I know they don't grab the puck down low - I have played once or twice. It's more on the boards or on loose pucks in the slot where he's on the open wing side. Plus he's fairly easy to pass around on the points or through the slot - that's just experience (and a bit of a reach factor too).
He's lots better than he was, and one thing he's good at is making sure the puck exits the zone when he does get a stick on it.
