Gosh. It was a close battle today. Federer didn't run away with it by any means. Milos' run at Indian Wells shows he is preparing to take that next step.
And how cool was it to have Gretzky there?

Fed pretty much neutralized Milos' bread and butter inside out attack with the slice...that slice has to be the most underrated shot on tour. It's the same shot that Fed uses to throw Djoker off as well.
I'm pleased with the better variety, backhand and net play from Milos though...slow but very steady progress. Tomorrow's final should be killer stuff.

Fed had to battle hard to win that second set. Was down a break and broke back to win it in a tie break. These two are so fun to watch. The rallying is insane. Here we go to the 3rd.

If injuries really limit Pospisil's singles career, he could become the heir-apparent to Nestor in doubles.

Pretty cool story actually. Hopefully he continues to develop and be another good Canadian player.

Pospisil knocks off del Potro in straght sets in Miami (6-4, 7-6(7)) - Obviously, del Potro is rusty after a long layoff, but that's still a nice win for Vasek.

Capacity of 6000, similar to UBC.
Outdoors so probably not as loud.
Pretty sure they will pick really slow red clay. Keep your eye on Goffin and Darcis and see how they do in the clay season.

Sixth-seeded Eugenie Bouchard is done at the Miami Open after losing to World Number 113, Tatjana Maria, of Germany.
The Canadian lost 6-0, 7-6(4) in her second round match.

Genie has about 6 more weeks in the top 10 and then it could be a steep fall with the big points to defend at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Unfortunately not seeing any growth the her game and opponents have figured her out. Without big changes to her game she might stay ranked for a while but will struggle to be a top 20 player.

Not going to win many matches when you're broken five times. Her serve (especially her second serve) really needs to improve.

Milos should have finished Chardy in straight sets, but still prevailed in three sets (needed a tie-breaker in the 3rd). He next faces the winner of Dimitrov and Isner (you would assume Dimitrov, but Isner has been playing better of late and you never know which baby Fed will show up).

Geez, Isner made short work of Dimitrov (7-6, 6-2)

Wow, Milos and Isner just has endless, grinding baseline rallies written all over it...

I'm not getting down on her yet.
There was a time that we all thought Milos was stagnating too.

Nadal lost 500 points this week in Miami. He is right now 4th in the live standings. If Nishikori beats Goffin tomorrow Nadal will fall to 5th. If Raonic beats both Isner and then Nishikori then Nadal will fall to 6th.
Nadal with a low seed going into Roland Garros is a scary proposition.

Any guesses as to the Milos-Isner scoreline? If you had 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5)....well duh, obviously. Milos loses though, but I can honestly say those types of matches are unwatchable. It's basically like watching the NBA, just show up to watch the tiebreakers and you missed nothing.

Milos did nothing last night except give the haters more ammo that he's just a younger version of Isner. I personally don't subscribe to that line of thinking, but he picked a bad time to have a clunker of a match.

They played a total of 233 points; only three of them went over nine shots; 179 of them (77 per cent) were over in four shots or less.

But in that second-set tiebreak, Raonic quickly went up 3-0, winning both points on Isner's serve. For someone like Raonic, two mini-breaks in a tiebreak – especially so early on – should be more than enough to win the set and, in this case, the match. But this time, it wasn't enough.
Isner recuperated those points, and more, as Raonic got only one first serve into play in the last six points of the tiebreak.
|
Quote:
After that, fans would probably have preferred the two players head straight to the third-set tiebreak, bypassing the monotony of the set in between. And in the end, that's where they ended up. And despite the fact that Raonic has gone 8-1 in deciding-set tiebreaks over the last year, Isner won it.
