Ya, I would agree that our top line now moves forward and is even better. Does that mean more points, I don't know. But just a better overall game, I don't see them getting worse together. I think Hudler has couple more seasons before we see him slow down at all.
I would imagine that Bennett might play some wing since we have so many centre? Would he slot into the 3rd line centre and Backs on the 2nd? Who gets more ice time and the better wingers, I would guess Backs. Next season will be an interesting one.

I think next year Backlund will be the 2nd line center most of the time, if he's still here. I think Bennett makes the team easily, but starts out as the 3C and they gradually ease him into more minutes against tougher competition.

Will be interesting to see if Bennett gets the hudler treatment that both Johnny and Monohan got in their rookies seasons. It seems to have done wonders for them.
Then again... That gaudreau-Monohan-hudler line is looking so good right now it might stay together next year as well. I could see Bennett getting some time on backlund's wing next year. Monohan, backlund, Bennett, jooris, colborne, shore, stajan... There are a lot of guys that can play centre on this team. Nice being able to shift guys like jooris and colborne to wing.
Gaudreau-Monohan-hudler
Bennett-backlund-jones
Raymond-jooris-colborne
Bouma-stajan-ferland
Extras: shore, Byron
Possibly trade Bollig in the offseason. Ferland looks ready to make the jump. This projection doesn't even consider any FA signings/trades. Or guys like poirier or granlund pushing for a spot at camp next season. It's a bit of a log jam.

I have thought the same thing, if Hudler plays with Bennett next year we might as well rename him the mentor or something.

I think if the Flames keep the Bouma-Backlund-Jones line together next year ideally they slide down to the third line. A lot of successful playoff teams in the past had that pesky third line shutdown unit. I think Hudler should slide down to play with Bennett and another winger. The Flames should search for a winger with better size to play on the Monahan-Gaudreau line.

I can't imagine he'll spend much time on the wing at all. There's a reason young centres are preferred over wingers, and you always try to develop them as centres for as long as you can until it's clear that they won't benefit the team unless moved to the side. After playing wing for an extended period of time, you'll get minimal benefits to helping his career at center and just waste time with him not learning his position better. Especially since the defensive end of the game is typically the weak area of young forwards, and that positioning is drastically different in your own end.

Since Bennett's return to Kingston, they have gone 10w-1l with him in the line-up and 0w-2l with him out. They were 22w-25l-8otl before his return.

I think ideally Jones gets moved in the off-season along with Raymond and we go with something like:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bouma - Backlund - Jooris
Colborne - Bennett - Poirier
Bollig - Stajan - Shore
Byron - Granlund - Ferland
The depth of this team when including Jones and Raymond is ridiculous which might see guys like Poirier, Granlund and Ferland play some years in the AHL before breaking into the NHL much like detroit has done with guys like Helm, Tartar, Nyquist ect.
Such an exciting time to be a Flames fan and it hasn't even really begun.

I think Jones could find a home with only 4 mil cap hit and 1 year remaining, although we may get more at the deadline. I think Raymond at this point holds close to negative value. 2 years at over 3 mil is too much for him.
