Skinner did it in 10-11. Evander Kane did it in 11-12.

I will be disappointed if he does not keep progressing next year. His pace over the last 10 games would see him score 66 goals. I would expect 70 goals next year in order to see mediocre progression. Hey, even Selanne got 76 goals when he was 22.

I think if he hit 35 goals the flames make the playoffs.

It's probably been mentioned before and but I don't think it's putting the horse before the carriage to say I think we are seeing the early stages of a future captain and superstar franchise player with Monahan

I think he would captain a team a lot like gio does, quietly a warrior on the ice, vocal when needed, his play dictates the pace of his team. He definitely is future captian material and I think the next 2 years after this season will give us a great idea of what to expect from Sean going into his prime years.

Will be interesting to see the Monahan/Bennett dynamic. I'd love to see Sean as a captain. I'd also love to see Sam as the captain. What an awful problem to have.

The Sam and Sean comparisons remind me of Crosby and Malkin. In the future I could see Mony being the captain, with Gaudreau and Bennett being Alternates.

I'm reminded more of Messier and Gretzky personally, with Gaudreau representing Jari Kurri as a poor man's 'Johnny Gaudreau' to complete the trifecta. We'll see at least 1800 goals and 3900 points from those three. It's basic math.

I have to wonder if the arrival of Gaudreau this season may have taken some of the pressure off of Monahan, which is why he didn't have the second year slump that is so often the case.
In any case, he's going to be one hell of a great player for us. And with Bennett coming into the fold next season, wow.

I don't know if it was taking the pressure off, so much as having a brand new 50+pt player on his line that can both score and pass at an elite level

I may be reaching a bit here, and I understand the injury situation, but if you have to re-do the 2013 draft do you take Monahan over MacKinnon? Even before the MacKinnon injury Monahan was outproducing him and put up similar goal totals the year before (MacKinnon slaughtered him in points but don't forget the year Colorado had last year compared to the Flames).
Personally I think it's still too early to tell with MacKinnon, but in my mind there's no doubt I take him over Barkov/Drouin/Lindholm (Jones is tough, he's a defenseman, hard to compare).
Curious to hear what others think of Monahan vs MacKinnon so far in their career. Regardless, I think we got at worst the 2nd best player in that draft at the 6th overall pick.

Anyone else more excited to see Ferland score his first NHL goal than to see Monahan hit 30 at this point?
