was at a junior game last night but as soon it was over managed to catch the Flames game

real excited about Kenney
had a lot of interest in him, identified him really early in the process
fact you can add a player without expending an asset or pick is found money
still a very young player, still needs to improve a lot but has a lot of upside
right shooting defencemen are like unicorns - hard to find
defending has gotten better under Andy Murray
has one of the hardest shots if not the hardest shot in college
Flames were adamant he finishes exams before he joins Adirondack on an ATO
didn't burn a year with Kenney on his ELC
will get a taste of pro hockey and hopefully a playoff run with Huska and Gill will prepare him for training camp

still involved in other college free agents
tweaked the process this year and trying to be more aggressive
Kenney was a priority with us to fill a need with defensive prospects
still in the game with a few other individuals and will see how that plays out over the next few weeks

closing in on a decision on Murray pretty soon
been a real pro - worked hard to get up to speed as soon as possible
will decide in the next day or so to see if a fit with Douglas is there
still feel we got people in Adirondack, specifically Wotherspoon that could be here
even if they signed Murray no guarantee he would play

feels that the best situation is that Wotherspoon is playing a lot in the AHL until it becomes an emergency
dealing with the same scenario with Poirier
wants young players playing
likes Tyler a lot, but feels like he benefits playing 20+ minutes a night in all situations
Wotherspoon has really improved from Christmas on here.

getting back to health as best we can
Byron continues to progress, doesn't want to put a timetable on it with out talking to staff
Shore and Jooris are mending minor injuries *we hope*
with Emile have to manage the 4 recall rule
will address whether Poirier stays or is sent down to play games soon
have used 3 of 4 recalls, not including emergency recalls

Good organizational decision to require Kenney to finish exams

Of course, there's lots left to prove but Treliving is giving me confidence that he's very capable as a GM.

I stopped transcribing, but he went on to talk about the GM meetings and the proposed changes if anyone is interested in listening to the rest of the interview when it shows up on 960's website.

Does the recall rule apply to each individual player, or to recalls in general?

Ie: For Poirier, if they send him back down, can they recall him without using a new recall because they already had him up, or would that count as the 4th recall?

that would count as the 4th recall.

The Oilers got into trouble with it a few years ago. They thought it meant it applied to each individual player and kept sending Paajarvi up and down until they used their 4 recalls up and the league told them they had no recalls left.

I think the 4 recall thing is pretty stupid. I understand why they have it, but there has to be a better way to manage that then some abritrary 4 recall limit.

From the tone and tempered comments, it didn't sound like Murray will stick around.

I tend to agree. Sounds like he's been working hard in practice and the weight room, though...

Ultimately, a no lose situation for the Flames-either they get some free depth down the stretch, or they look good helping a guy out who's looking for a chance to rekindle his NHL career.

How very prototypically Oilers of them.

Good. We have way better options. Murray wasn't necessary.

Addressing the defensive depth in prospects, this draft has a lot of great D men in all rounds.

I hope we take a shot gun blast with those picks instead of trying to package or move up.
