Before today's games, there were only 10 players that have scored more goals than Monahan (tied with Kane and Parise).
Simply. Incredible.

9th in the league in goals. At least 3 years younger than anyone else in the top 10.

Mony on the main stats page now for goals with 28. Very impressive.
I think it also goes to highlight how special it is to score 50 in this league nowadays.

Unrelated to Monahan: What happened to scoring in this league? Ovie will hit 50 but no one else will. Tavares is leading the league in points with 72 in 72 games. Even in the dead puck era you have at least a couple guys near 95-100.

I think you are basically eliminated 3rd and 4th line 'plugs'. All four lines can play nowadays, therefore scoring is spreadout.
That's my theory anyway.

Sean Monahan is ours and he's only 20 years old.
Just let it sink in for a minute, everyone.

Hitting 30 in his second year, at 20 years old, while playing top line minutes against the best in the NHL. Also a very noticeable improvement in the faceoff dot.
Huge, huge progression from Sean. We're so lucky to have this guy.

It's true, there's much less of a difference between the top and bottom guys on a team. I think you can see that with TOI, this year there are 10 guys over 20 minues a game, and none over 21. Back in 97-98 (as far as NHL.com goes back), there were 35 guys over 20 minutes, 10 over 23, and our Theo Fleury was averaging about 25 minutes a game.

Better work on that extension the second the clock strikes midnight the day we are allowed. I'm thinking a chatty, caffeinated conroy showing up at whatever hotel he's staying at, waking him up to talk about .. Everything.. And refusing to leave u til he signs an 8x6.

I love that Sean is amongst the top of the league scorers, but looking at the page and I see a lot of the guys have played 10 or so less games that him. I just hope he doesn't pull an Evander Kane (not attitude wise) and score 30 early then barely put up 20 in the following years.
I am so pumped to have this kid on the team. A one-two punch of Sean and Sam or Sam and Sean makes me drool.

Also, he worked hard in the off season to improve his skating and he did. I expect he'll do the same this summer. A little more foot speed and watch out.

Does anyone know when the last time a 20 year old scored 30 goals in the NHL?
