You know...I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, I really do. But look at the photos of those women sitting around a table discussing not going to the spa every day because some of them 'sit on the board' of charity organizations and adopt dogs from the humane society.
Sure, some of them have jobs, but I'd wager that most dont. Especially not after they have kids.
This sounds like its going to be an episode of 'The View' with a different cast.
I agree completely, i think the vast majority don't and if they do they are, they are working with charities (good on them for atleast doing as much). I do recall Jenny Scrivens having a Master's degree but she is one of the few.
Alot of these girls meet their husbands when they are like 20-25 years old. No doubt they look at it as a great life in the future where working is not a requirement. I am not insuating that their main rationale for dating/marrying a hockey player is a free ticket to richtown, but i think they get comfortable.
Again, there is nothing wrong with a stay-at-home wife (most of us on here probably had mom's who didn't work) but these women aren't 50 years old. They are 20-30 year olds and that notion is far from the norm in that age bracket in this day and age.
I also have no problem admitting my wife has an easier life than an NHL wife. She doesn't have access to the luxuries they do, but we don't worry about putting food on the table, she knows I'm home most nights except for occasional business travel. And there definitely is never an issue of attractive girls lining up to get a chance with me.
Money is awesome and all, but I think a lot of us have it pretty easy. Just crappier cars, smaller houses, and cheaper vacations. I'm not so sure I'd trade spots with those families.

The down side though is you have a bum for a face. I can imagine that creates some tension.

So do a lot of NHL players. Hot Women only marry handsome Men unless they are rich or in a Kevin James movie, it is much easier to fall in love with a lifestyle then a person.

And I bet most of them make $100,000 a year or more. There are people who are working as nannies here in Alberta, or as cab drivers and dishwashers, who are away from their families to earn a living that pays them a fraction of that. Heck, there are people who suffocate or drown trying to get to countries where they can look forward to work cleaning hotel rooms. Does that mean your friends in Fort Mac have no right to complain?
It seems everyone has a different magic number as to where someone is too rich to complain.
I always find threads like this interesting to see how much much money it takes to place you in the "your problems are no longer worthy of empathy" catagory.
Is the over/under $100,000/yr, $500,000, $1 million?

I don't think lack of sympathy necessarily comes from the "victims" wealth, but the fact that it's the wealth/lifestyle that creates the problems they are having.
I think anyone can relate and sympathize with personal problems and issues of abuse or other terrible things regardless of wealth. But when it's "I had to live in a city I don't like, because I KNOWINGLY CHOSE TO MARRY A HOCKEY PLAYER." or "My husband is never home!" it's hard to sympathize as they chose that lifestyle.
I'm also in the camp that, if I were a pro athlete, I'd likely be waiting for my career to end before settling down. But at the same time, you can't control who with, or when, you fall in love.

Fair, but you can control when you choose to get married.

This. A thousand times this.
- "We keep buying and selling houses when he gets traded!"
- "We didnt like Apartment Living in Manhattan so we had to sell that and buy a house!"
- "Movers lost our stuff and we didnt buy basics because despite the fact that we keep buying real estate wherever we move it seems like a cheap bed, sheets and pillows would be a waste!"

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
As Bill Burr says, there is an epidemic of gold digging w***** going on
I wouldn't go that far, but anyone who think these women hook up with these guys, for their charm and intelligence is living in a dream world. The same can be said for the players. In a way they kinda deserve each other.
One is attracted to a fit guy with megabucks, the other is attracted to the idea of going to bed each night with the type of woman that previously only existed to him in redtube videos.
Sure there are exceptions to the rule like Iggy who married his high school sweet heart etc...but for the better part, these marriages are fueled by looks and money. I have never seen a player with a homely wife.
I have been in nightclubs where NHL players have shown up after games. Women will ditch their boyfriends on the spot to flirt with these guys. I had an ex in my 20's that was waaaaaaay out of my league, but I was just happy she gave me the time of day.... and I treated her like gold. I was always kinda prepared for the brush off one way or another, but she cranked the rip your heart out to level 11, and yanked off the knob. She 'broke it off' with me, with a C-level celebrity here for a B-rated movie being shot in town. Literally making out with the guy 10 feet from me, and walked out of the Crazy Horse with him. I was pretty hurt by it. About 2 months later I got the call, the waterworks, the apology, and "That a-hole gave me Herpes! I sure that makes you happy!" I never laughed so hard in my life, and she was right, I was.
Not all women are like this, but you'd be naive to think that women won't hook up with a guy strictly for fame and money. And vice versa.
I cannot sympathize one iota with this woman problems, and her hyperbole. "OMG, my rich jet setting lifestyle with a famous athlete is so hard! I almost like totally died!" The only thing missing is a picture of her with those big socialite sunglasses, and a toy poodle in a purse.
Everyone has their problems no matter what social class they're in but it's hard to get on board when someone complains that they had to buy 3-4 houses in a year but was too dumb to buy pillows instead of toilet paper rolls and OMG I had to talk to the help at Saks!!! I would have thought the wives of players would have a bit of a tight social group for new team mates to adjust to. Seems like this show is setting up like one of the many empty headed "wives of ..." shows.

so actually watched a part of the show last night. I hate reality TV, but caught myself actually watching the show for about 15 mins.
It was mildly amusing for 2 reasons:
1) cool to see the lifestyles and off-ice life of NHLers, it does highlight tht they also have the same type of foundational stress we all do (job security, family/kids, etc)
2) the way the show is presented, it almost is poking fun at the hockey wives also. They were going out of their way to almost present Ryan miller's wifey as a bit of an annoying, superficial diva.
I didn't know miller was married to the girl from anger management or whatever. He always gave off this vibe of this quiet, almost zen-like person, yet married quite an exuberant, diva type lady.
Nicole Brown came off as pretty obnoxious. Could be editing but it seemed all she had to say was that she was the wife of a two time stanley cup winner who has an 8 yr 46 million dollar contract. Meanwhile her kid is eating dog food and the dog is dying to be let outside to get away from the chaos.

I didn't watch any (or even realize this was a show) but I read some of that article. She's an actress so she obviously knows what gets people attention on these reality shows. But I like that she was worried about her career moving to Vancouver, like Buffalo and St. Louis were hotbeds of the film industry.
She does realize that many Hollywood movies and big TV shows are made there, right?
I also like that they seem to have a few girls who are more self-aware of their situations and think the others are ridiculous. Brown's wife complaining that he's playing with teenagers. His teammate Mr. Carter doesn't seem to mind.
