Looking back in retrospect, I can't believe Angelo Esposito was so hyped. He had his best year in 2005-06, and that was mainly because he played on a line with Radulov for the Quebec Remparts.
I believe he has been playing overseas in Europe since 2012.

Backlund has developed into an elite #3C and with 21pts in 28 games since his return, has shown that he can contribute offensively as well.
Also, happy birthday Backs!

Hickey is a top 4 dman, Cherepanov RIP, Riley Nash similar player to Backs. Rest suck. That was a decent first round 18 of the 30 to picks became are still playing and contributing,

I did not know Cherepanov died, what happened? I'll take him off of my list.
How is Hickey a top 4 defenceman? His career best is 22 points. Unless he is superb defensively, but his -9 on a playoff team suggest otherwise.
Riley Nash is a decent player but Backlund is more valuable, no question.

On Chereponov's death.

Hickey did not live up to 4th overall selection but he's still a valuable part of their d-core. Logging close to 19 minutes a night. Not every dman will put up lots of points. Regher (not comparing him to Regher) was never a big point producer but would you argue the fact he was a top 4 dman here?
Nash is a decent player, 2nd/3rd line combo guy. We don't hear much about him. We see Backs all the time and hes ours so we'll obviously value him more then Nash.

I'll echo this. Hickey is not a top 4 dman (maybe a 4 at best) and Riley Nash is nowhere near Backlunds level.

Yeah, Riley Nash is not even close to Backlund. And thats not being a Flames homer, its reality.
Backlund has developed into a solid 2-way player and at times he gets top line minutes due to the trust coaches have in his game.
He has been a 25+ pt producer 3 times, highest being 18G 21A for 38 pts last year.
Nash doesn't have 1 25 pt season. Broken 10 goals once (10g last year) and doesn't get much more than 4th line minutes. Borderline 3rd.
Regardless how much we watch Backlund, Nash is not the better player in ANY category.

The Oilers picked 6th, 15th and 21st and have Teddy Purcell to show for it.
The Flames picked 24th and have the better player.
And that pick has been criticized quite a bit. Just imagine being an Oilers fan.

LOL to Riley Nash being close to Backlund. Not even close.
Hickey is a borderline #4 guy, more of a good #5. His selection that high is still surprising to me.
Also, RIP to Cherapanov. He would have been a great player and I remember Jagr was pretty shaken up since they played on the same team.

To be fair he was guy who's #1 asset was his skating - and then he suffered a series of major knee injuries. To a certain point I don't think you can simply say that hew as over-hyped. We don't know what he would had done had he remained healthy.
