Hank Snow made that song #1 although probably just about every country star did a cover over the years.

Let's see him do it more than half a season first before we start anointing him elite.

He seems unbeatable against them, so he's at least a guaranteed 6 wins...

Would love to add a Green or Fransson to our blueline. I'd even consider Petry, as I think he was the Oilers' best defenceman. Petry will likely see a similar resurgence that Dubnyk has had. Obviously the pipe dream is Staal.

Staal already re-signed.

I think it would be insane yes, because if we're bringing in Franson to play top pairing minutes, we should move out Brodie.

Yeah anyone who signs a UFA on the first day of free agency this summer will be trying to get outof that contract on deadline day. What an ugly group of free agents.

I get that Russel and Wideman have gnarly chemistry right now, but I don't think we should be selling 26 year old defensemen. Or even placing them down on the 3rd pairing.

Franson doesn't even play on this team yet you are so quick to kill the bromance of Gio and Brodie #Brodano

Gio- Brodie
???- Wideman
Russel- Franson

Gio- Wideman
Brodie- Franson
Russel- ???

Gio- Franson
Russel- Brodie
 ???- Wideman

There's a lot of combinations you can make there but for me Brodie = Top 4 or greater
And he's proven it.

No, you can't give Green 6 x 6 with Gio coming up for a new contract during that timeframe. And you don't overpay for your third pairing or 4th line.
Hell, people crap all over Wideman for his contract and he is twice the all round player Green is. That would be an anchor.

We're already unbeatable against the Oilers, so really he'd make no difference in the endgame.

Didn't mean to imply that Brodie was suddenly 3rd-pairing material; just pointing out that adding a guy like Franson would mean we could roll 3 really solid, balanced D pairings.

I think putting Brodie on a line with England would be a great thing, it would allow him to let his offensive game shine even more and make England look better (even though he's been playing really well lately). I think those 6 dmen together would be awesome.

Brodie is currently babysitting Engelland and he's been unnoticeable at best to sometimes just plain bad. That sounds like an awful idea. Not sure how carrying a depth defenseman around lets him be more offensive, it's done the opposite.

You can already see today that the true winners of NHL free agency 2015 will be the teams that resist temptation to overpay for these guys. You would think the David Clarkson contract would be a cautionary tale of overspending on a depth player but you know there's going to be a few teams that pony up top pairing money for one of those defensemen. I just hope the Flames stay clear.

It's what had to be done, given the Giordano injury. Someone had to take a lot more minutes, and Brodie has carried Engelland nicely.
But to have this as a 'plan' for next year is really not a good idea.

Thank you. We need depth defensemen on short deals that can push guys like Engelland out of the lineup.

Gio - Brodie needs to stay as the #1 pairing and we need to bring in guys to solidify the second and third. Our third pairing has bled goals for us all season
