Out of those 9, my top 3 would go:

#1 Ivan Provorov
6'0'' - LH D, Russian

#2 Paul Bittner
6'4'' - LH LW, American

#3 Nick Merkley
5'10'' - RH C, Canadian (Calgary)

I'll be seeing Svechnikov (RW) play twice this week (Friday and Saturday) when Cape Breton comes to Charlottetown. Button has him right about where Calgary should be picking.

If Crouse fell to the Flames pick I'd expect Treliving would sprint up there to take him. Big guy who may be able to play top 6 which is something the Flames lack.

Especially with the Sven trade, I don't think picking up a LW is out of question.

Pronman put up his first mock draft:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/story...man_MockDraft1

He has the Flames taking Meier at 17, citing that the Flames will take the BPA regardless of depth at forward. Roy and Carlo went 15 and 16 respectively to Winnipeg and Boston.

Based on standings right now here is what I would look at doing

#16 – D – Jeremy Roy
#46 – D – Jacob Larsson
#48 – D – Noah Juulsen
#50 – RW – Conor Garland
#77 – C/RW – Adam Musil
#81 – D – Tate Olson

Would love to get Brandon Carlo in the second round.
Wonder how far Oliver Kylington falls in the first round, if at all.
Would also be okay with taking Mathew Barzal in the first round as well. Might only end up as a second line center, but he will probably be ready to come into the league in about four years. Around the time that Backlund will be hitting 30.
Have heard more things and good things about Jeremy Roy than I have about Thomas Chabot.

Based on how Finish wingers have done coming over to NA, like Joel Armia, I am not sure about taking Mikko Rantanen.

Not sure if Musil will drop into the third round based on his size. But based on how long it is taking for his brother to make the NHL it might happen.

Wonder about going with size for my third second round selection and taking C – Nicolas Roy instead of a smaller guy like Garland who just puts up huge offensive numbers.

Craig Button
TSN 1260 - March 14
https://soundcloud.com/pipeline-show/craig-button-mar14

McDavid separating himself
Eichel is a heck of a player but Connor stands alone is because his speed is unprecedented
Not just skating speed but how fast he processes and executes
He slows the game down and threatens and intimidates defencemen
There is no perfect player. You assess the player and then determine if he plays to his abilities. Connor does.
In the last few weeks Connor just looks relaxed and just plays.
Has a confidence on the ice that he can change the outcome of the game and he does.

Marner vs Strome
when it is close like this, 100% of the time take the center over the winger
razor thin close between Marner and Strome
Marner poses a little bit of a challenge because he is a unique winger
Most wingers are skate up the ice with speed and shoot - Marner can shoot but he is a playmaker and a creative player.
For Button, he would default to the center because #1 centers are hard to find.
Yes the Blackhawks drafted P. Kane but that was because they had Toews in the fold.
Depends on the organization, if you have a bunch of centers then Marner is not a guy you can pass on.

C Kyle Connor - 6'1'' 183lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=177671
elite player - been in Button's top 10 since new year
his skating excellence, hands, mind quickness = dangerous player

RW Brock Boeser - 6'1'' 192lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=248381
continually shows he has big time NHL talent
he is unique in that he can create offensive opportunities in many ways
he can do it with power, he can do it with playmaking - really smart player and he has a really good finishing touch
he can score in tight, he can score from 30 feet, he can score off the rush, he can score off the cycle
players have to get their hands set to shoot. a lot of players will set their hands to shoot only after they get into position. Boeser's hands are always set to shoot. That always beats the goaltenders.
Last guy to remind Button of Boeser's hands is Mike Bossy

LW Paul Bittner - 6'4'' 194lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=216874
really seen in the last 6 weeks is a player that can play and think along with good players and can skate
Paul has good size but isn't a prototypical power rugged winger
uses his size well to gain and hold advantages but beause he thinks well and has good skill, it makes it not easy to play against
really stepped up his game up
question about whether Bjorkstrand and Petan are boosting Bittner's numbers: you still got to carry your own game, if you are not able to produce with those guys someone else will. Paul has held his ground and shown he can play with other good players.

Pavel Zacha
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=130786
biggest thing was when you watched him when he was younger you though he was going to be a real offensive dynamo centerman
Button doesn't see an elite offensive player. Sees a player along the lines of Radek Faksa.
Nothing wrong with Faksa or Zacha, but you need to be able to distribute the puck as a center
Thinks Zacha might be better served as a winger.
Can skate, has determination and can shoot the puck when he goes around the net
Really doesn't see him as a top end center

If Kylington falls to us in the first round and Jeremy Roy is still available, who would you guys prefer the Flames pick?

Between the Sabres and Flames, 10 of the top 60 prospects will be going to my favorite teams. That's pretty wild

Easily Roy. Both similar size. Roy is also a right shot and been consistently in the same area in the rankings. Kylington has been falling.

Unless you have a clear understanding of why the other scouts are saying Kylington should perhaps fall out of the first round is wrong, then I am not sure why anyone would pick him over Roy at this point.

I count 8.

Buffalo has 2 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders.

Flames have 1 1st rounder and 3 2nd rounders

Since we're in the thick of it, and given some recent life circumstances, I've given less energy to the draft/prospects. Really excited for this upcoming draft. Our organization hasn't had this much (potential) depth since our Stanley Cup days. And for Buffalo, it's unprecedented how strong they're going to be moving forward.

Whoops, you are correct.

Not sure where I got ten from. 8/60 is still pretty awesome too.

I think the Flames will be looking at Jansen Harkins who is son of Todd Harkins who used to play for the flames. Went one behind Barzel and looks better than him this year (although Barzel has been hurt and I have a Cougar bias). I'd also like the Flames to take a late round pick on Chase Witala but that's just a pipe dream for me
