One positive was Gaudreau quarterbacking the play in the last 45 seconds. He's becoming a catalyst out there. Amazing he's our go-to guy at that stage in the game and that he's taking the ball and running with it.

Fatigue setting in was obvious... Big road trip followed up with a back-to-back with travel. The guys really need these next two days to refresh and prepare for the final push!

The NHL Rulebook on "Too Many Men on the Ice"...
Quote:
If in the course of making a substitution, either the player entering the game or the player retiring from the ice surface plays the puck with his stick, skates or hands or who checks or makes any physical contact with an opposing player while either the player entering the game or the retiring player is actually on the ice, then the infraction of “too many men on the ice” will be called.
If in the course of a substitution either the player(s) entering the play or the player(s) retiring is struck by the puck accidentally, the play will not be stopped and no penalty will be called.
|
Jooris made zero attempt to play the puck in that situation, so even if it did touch him (which it didn't appear to on any replay I saw), it shouldn't have been a penalty under the accidental contact part of the rule.

It was a poor effort tonight for sure. Can't blame them for the loss, but you can call them out for inconsistency and poor positioning.

What a load of crap. The Avs deserved several penalties in the first alone. The time of the other calls (and the BS nature of them) had a huge effect on the momentum of the game.

It goes beyond stats and ratios. From the linesmen to the orange stripes, officiating was poor all game long. The phantom too many men call essentially swung the momentum in favor of the Aves and they took advantage of it all the way to the first 4 minutes of the third period. A couple of mistakes on offsides deflated some momentum as well, pretty much neutering good odd-man opportunities.
Moreover, discipline goes a long way. Colorado did not play disciplined hockey tonight, yet they weren't punished for it.
Look, I'm not laying the blame directly at the feet of the referees. The Flames' defense was bad for large segments of the game and the composure and energy simply wasn't there from puck drop through a full 60 minutes. However, the officiating stood out more so this evening as detrimental and a negative influence on Calgary's fortune than in others.

Amen. We were at least the better team, maybe even. The flames pushed hard to the end and never gave up.
Colorado has only 3 loses in 10 games, they're hot. Whatever

Sharks. By the time that game happens, Kings will have leap frogged the Jets(Kings are home to ARI on Monday) and the Jets will be in 9th. Gotta keep that 9th spot as far away from the flames as possible.
Sharks win in regulation is best case scenario.

The reffing was terrible, but it wasn't the reason we lost.
The Avs were the better team tonight.

The only thing I want to blame the refs on were the brutal too-many-men call, I've seen way worse infractions of that penalty go without batting an eye. The second being the ref practically hip checking Jooris as he persued the defender behind the avs net which led to the rush and us basically being on penalty kill.
Everything else is what it is but thought we should have stepped up more physically to try and stop the free running of the Avs. We fought hard, just gave too much space to them which have then more of an edge. Onwards and upwards.

Worth pointing out that Bouma had a great game coming off his early ejection vs Toronto. A beautiful slapper and almost tied it in the dying seconds. Love what he's become!

I've never had a problem with Mike Johnson before, but... he was borderline unlistenable (is that a word?) tonight. What a terrible job he did.
The officiating was an absolute disgrace for both teams.
Brodie was a mess tonight. Also thought Hudler-Gaudreau-Monahan struggled but they've been fantastic lately so I'm not too upset.
Move on to the next game.
Oh, and Landeskog is a clown.

No need to blame them entirely, but it was a poorly officiated game from start to finish. That really has nothing to do with your hyperbolae though.

one thing I did notice was how well the Avs handled Gaudreau tonight. He was getting more contact than normal, and not all of it clean.
This was a game where one of our bigger guys should have held the opponent accountable.
