Icon41 Joe Thornton says GM Doug Wilson "needs to stop lying, shut his mouth."

David Pollak @PollakOnSharks
Simmering issues boiling over in SJ. #SJSharks Thornton on latest from GM Wilson on taking away the 'C': "Doug needs to shut his mouth."

Apparently reacting to this:

Quote:
The topic was raised in a question-answer session with about 350 season-ticket holders before the Sharks faced the Nashville Predators, and Wilson prefaced his remarks by saying he is a huge Thornton fan.

"He cares about the game so much. The reason we took the 'C' off him ... Joe carries the weight of the team on his shoulders, and he's got such a big heart that when stress comes on him, he lashes out at people," Wilson said, "and it kind of impacts them.

"The pressure and stress, I felt, was getting to Joe," the general manager said. "And I sat him down and said we need other players to step up and share this. He got it. He didn't like it, but he got it and he understood it."

Quote:
Long-simmering issues between Sharks general manager Doug Wilson and veteran center Joe Thornton boiled to the surface Friday when Thornton had a direct response to Wilson's latest explanation of why the 'C' was removed from his jersey.

"I think Doug just needs to shut his mouth," Thornton said after his team's morning practice. "I think that's the bottom line."

Thornton added: "All I've got to say is I've been here every day working hard. I haven't taken a sabbatical. He just needs to stop lying, shut his mouth."

I think Doug Wilson is not long for the GM job in San Jose.

Something has to give with that roster, and with Thornton and Marleau not wanting to move on, I don't know how it gets fixed.

Ah...the honeymoon is over is San Jose. Tons of talent but not getting the job done. Time for the inevitable blow it up.

Let me guess.... not good for team chemistry in that dressing room? Sharks playoff hopes just slipped another notch.

I'm with Thornton on this, it's ridiculous how they've handled the captain situation

Don't disagree with Thornton, BUT, you can not say that about your GM. Period.

He's going to be there longer than the GM and he knows it.

I really don't think that matters. That team doesn't need this blowing up on them in the heat of a playoff race.

Hey, I'm not complaining - I love it. But bad, very bad for the Sharks.

GM: Joe lashes out at people and it has negative effects on the team.
Joe: Shut your mouth!

Way to prove him right Joe!

Well by reacting like that he sort of is confirming what Wilson is saying.

Looks worse on Thornton. Telling your GM to shut his mouth in public? Not good. At least Wilson was diplomatic about addressing the captaincy.

Yeah but you don't air that in the media. Same reason I don't think Shanahan said anything particularly wrong about Kadri, but the better angle is "We've done what we think is best for the team, we've discussed it with the coaching staff and the players involved, and we're keeping that discussion internal and will be answering no questions."

Joe and Marleau should be removed from that situation. It's beyond fixing there.

Are we sure this isn't just another case of Thornton's sense of humour going over the heads of the media covering the team (like his comments after Hertl's four-goal game last year)?

Wilson said he lashes out when he's under stress and Thornton responds by lashing out at him.

The #Sharks have this habit of throwing their players under the bus - I don't get it. Marleau and Thornton both have produced endlessly.
