How does Giordano latest injury effect his next contract?
I think had he gone injury free this year the Flames would have been willing to offer more term. I can't see a 6 or 7 year contract for big $$$ now. By no means do I want Giordano in anything but a Flames jersey till he retires, just a little worried about a storm that could be brewing. Thoughts?

His injury should have no bearing on any new deal in my opinion and I don't think it will even enter Brads mind when tabling a new deal to Gio. The organization know how valuable he to risk annoying him with a desiory deal.

I don't think it will have any bearing. Gio is a warrior and leader of the Flames. To let a fluke injury like this affect the next contract would be foolish.

The injury might affect his signature ever so slightly. A special effect signature.

He's missed a quarter of the season 3 of the last 4 years. That is going to come in play. He'll still get a huge contract though, but questions of durability may cost a year or so in term.
I assume he signs long term in the summer. Although I do wonder if our management would listen to a good trade offer considering his age and where it fits with what they are trying to build. Personally, I think a young teams needs guys like him and Hudler, and since we definitely have the cap room, that will be the thought that wins out. But if you completed removed emotion from it, he's going to be 33 when that contract extension starts and has already had issues staying healthy. A five or six year deal pays him from when he is 33-39 or so. Is that the right age guy to be putting so much money into as the young guys start getting more expensive?
I still think he signs here, but I am not sure it is the slam dunk everyone thinks it is, and may be a bit of a long negotiation.

He may need to sign the contract with his right hand. Hard to say if that will be an issue or not.

I agree with nfotiu but the last injury was a fluke and not due to his robust play.

The difference at most will be a 5 year contract instead of 6 or 7. $ will be the same.

I think Gio takes another small discount to stay with the Flames. 6x6 is my guess

That would be amazing. But it wouldn't be that bad to see a 7 x 6 as well

Haha if the Flames stop at 6x6 there's at least some GM somewhere who will pay him considerably more. I know it would be nice to think he will stay for cheap, but the guy is completely irreplaceable. You have to pay him full term and big dollars, or he'll understandably take it from someone else. And allowing that to happen would be a terrible mistake.

He still gets his big pay day. His agents just has to show a few more fancy stat slides rather then a single one that has three words: Norris Trophy winner

If not for injury, he's a Norris Nom the last 2 seasons. That IMO puts him in the top 5 dmen in the NHL. The 3 actual Noms and 2 that were/are on the cusp.
So you look at Doughty, Subban, Suter, then you look at Weber and Giordano.
The guy gets paid. Perhaps slightly less than a few of those guys, but not by much and gets term.

I bet he signs for under 6.
Not because of his injury but because of length and security of no move.
5 year 27.5 million. NMC, NTC
