That was my thought initially. You already have the LRT there and you wont have to re-route any roads (bow trail).
My preference would be for the Flames Group to take over the Stampede. I think they could take both the Stampede and the Grounds to a whole other level.

I think the Big Rodeo and Fair could be something interesting to the Flames,
But I cannot see them having any interest in the Convention Centers, Ag. Fairs, or Horse breeding, marching band, or heritage projects.... Not to mention whatever comes along with a private business taking over a none profit.
I don't really have any inside information, but I do know a few people who are closer to the situation than most of us are, and IMO 6 years ago the Flames and Stampede both thought they would continue their partnership with a new building. But 4 years ago when Flames starting thinking about a multisports mega venue the relationship soured. My Guess is the Stampede did not want to give up that much land and was upset the Flames started exploring other options, and the general assumption has become that they will not be partners in the new building.
I'm actually also guessing if they Stampede knew their vision for Olympic Way would fall through they would have been allot more open to the idea of a mulpisport facility on the north end of their property, but the Flames are now happy with the other options they have developed.

Considering that the Stampede is a not for profit organization with a really wide reaching scope of operations I doubt that the Flames organization would be interested in taking them over and even if that was proposed it would be highly doubtful that the members of the Stampede would be willing to turn over the organization. The Stampede organization is much more than just the park and 10 day festival.

He didn't ask for a pig flying, he asked for a pig airborne. I gave him a real pig really airborne.

I think in a perfect world the Big Four would have been condemned after the flood, and Stampede could have taken the insurance money to add another hall onto BMO Centre...but the damage wasn't that bad I guess. I do know that because of what it's original purpose was the building is it's very well built, and very durable, if not completely aesthetically pleasing.

I forgot about the largest rink in the world part! I remember being there with my friend and his parents (avid curlers) and they wanted to peer through the doors to get a look though. Given the curling at the dome this week the Big 4 seems like a terrible comparison, but then again that was probably 30 years ago!

Not unless they paid a hell of a lot of money to the U of C for the land...

This.
I have a hard time believing the U of C would put in a big upgrade last summer (new scoreboard) if the McMahon land was even a possibility.

That wasn't U of C was it? I thought it was Stamps (Flames) expenses.
Once a new football stadium is built, McMahon becomes obsolete and that land becomes much more valuable if they tear it down and use the land for other purposes. They could build a much smaller, and appropriate stadium somewhere on campus. They would probably save a fair amount of money from maintenance/operation costs alone.

From what I have read it was a split venture but I'm not 100% positive. Either way why would the flames pay money for a new scoreboard to tear it down within a few years

That scoreboard can be disassembled and sold off. no way they continue operating that facility with the Stamps getting a new home.

The scoreboard can be moved. They put it up with a change in stadium in mind.

It's still going to be years before the Stamps are in a new building. I wouldn't be surprised if they prioritize the construction of the arena ahead of the stadium, so if it's a minimum of 5 years before the Flames are in a new building, it will probably be longer for the Stamps. If the arena opens in the fall of 2020, the stadium likely won't open until the summer of 2021 or maybe even 2022.
So, even best case scenario, they'll still get 7 or 8 seasons of use from the new scoreboard. Then, once the new building is open, they can either move the scoreboard to the new building, or sell it to another facility that needs one.
