Initially I had to look at the date of the original post and figure out what "GP" stood for (Looked like Games Played), I was thinking we've played a lot more then that. Its games remaining.

I've been following http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Western.html to track our playoff chances. Bingo's stats go a long ways to explain why they have the flames at an 83.4% chance to make the playoffs, despite the Flames having a slim lead on 8th place with so many games let to play. I was a little surprised to see that every fringe team in the west has a very challenging schedule to end the year.

Feb 24th update:
Important time to have a look at this as it's about the grimmest it will look for Calgary versus the rest of the way.
Flames play the Rangers tonight in game one of a 7 game road trip and because of that they have the league's 7th worst schedule at the moment.
Six of the seven teams face on this trip have a home win % in excess of 60%, four in excess of 65%
When they get home their schedule will snap into the 23-26 range in degree of difficulty, the key being where they sit.
Summary
- Vancouver is set
- Wpg/Min/Dal have the top three skeds in the league
- Az has the 5th worst, and Edm 13th for McDavid gazing

Crazy to think how easy Vancouver's schedule is.
Bingo, does your odds take into account the number of times Vancouver plays a team on their back-to-back night?

What that last chart suggests to me is that if the Flames can do well, or even just average on this road trip, they are in a good place to make the playoffs. If they slide, then they are reliant on other teams crumbling, or having a very hot run in the home stretch

Some good news on the schedule front ...
Flames now the 19th toughest schedule, a factor that will go more and more in their favour once they get this 7 game road trip done.
Can Ramo steal a game or two and get them home close to .500? If so the Gio-less miracle gets a real boost.
Winnipeg worst schedule going, so stay ahead of SJ and pass Winnipeg is the best attack plan in my mind.

Flames schedule has improved a tonne with some of the road games gone on the trip.
Cgy now the 19th toughest, with Wpg 1st and Min 2nd. That's huge. LA 9th toughest. The Canucks with the AZ game last night off the books have moved from 30th to 28th.
If Giordano was on the roster I'd be getting pretty confident.
Without him I'm confused!

other than the blatant lack of cowbell, this table is some kind of awesome......any chance you can convert it to some type of graph?

Most difficult to easiest kind of thing?
This topic hasn't garnered a lot of discussion which I guess either means nobody cares, or they read it and move on

I love that there are some soft eastern teams coming throw western Canada while the Central teams have to run the Nas/Stl/Chi gauntlet.
1 game over .500 the rest of the way should be enough.

I like this - very awesome analysis.
fingers crossed the Kings and Wild struggle over the next week weeks. The OOT scoreboard hasn't been kind lately

Thanks Bingo! Great way to look at the schedule. I think the lack of response is just to do with the focus being elsewhere. I like looking at the schedule as a way of thinking through the flames chances.

Outstanding chart.
Screw the OOT scoreboard.
Finish 9-8 might not be enough.
Finish 10-7 should be in, regardless of what the rest do.
Go Flames.
