You were talking earlier about people who may have been incorrect about Monahan early on.

You of all people calling them out, is completely hypocritical.

Just stop.
Well, Jets Fans don't comprehend a whole lot.... What I don't comprehend is your existence on this forum?

You cannot be a jets fan and a flames fan - it is an absolute impossibility. So, before Backlund, perhaps you should focus on your apparent identity crisis?

When that's done, then come back here, I'll care more about your words then.

Sam Bennett is coming, Jooris is improving, Granlund and Shore are developing. None of these guys will require 1/3rd of the NHL time he was allotted to pass his production. In Boston, the shootout went 16 rounds....a new D was given a chance before him to shoot. This isn't the Gretzky/Iginla anomaly with freebies, while they pot 40+ goals in traffic of 5 defenders. This is the coach and the organization knowing that he lacks genuine offensive 'talent'. He gets by on hardwork, but that doesn't win cups nor guarantee him a place on the roster eternally.

He's benefitted enormously from previous management that didn't understand you should actually build a team from the centre position outward. And of course he was given a great opportunity when the team went into a rebuild.

Or, one could argue that he's a valuable two-way player, and a good draft pick at #24.

He plays in the NHL because he is an NHL player. "Previous management" liked players that are no longer here too. There is a reason Backlund has survived every management hes played under. (He's good at hockey and a model Flame).

Tell you what, I'm not a Jets fan and never have been, so maybe I'm allowed to speak in your hallowed presence. For the record, I agree with GoJetsGo. You spent years predicting that Backlund would wash out of the NHL, and so far as I know, you've never admitted you were wrong. Even in this latest post, you're making excuses by pretending that he shouldn't have been given the chances that he got, rather than admit the plain, obvious fact of the matter.

Now repeat after me:

‘I was wrong. Mikael Backlund is not playing in the KHL.’

Until you move past denial, you will never get a handle on the reality of the situation. And you certainly won't be in a position to criticize other people for doubting the future of Flames' prospects, while you yourself doubt not only the future, but the present and the past.

I watched the last 2 periods of the game at a restaurant in Sherwood Park. The Oilers game was on about half the tv's and the Flames game on the other half (which in itself is funny).

When the Oilers scored their goal, I happened to be looking at the tv and immediately looked around the packed restaurant for any kind of a reaction from the local faithful that their team had just taken the lead against a very good Chicago team.

Did I hear a "WOO"? Nope.
A "YAAA"? Nope.
A clap? Nope.
See a fist pump? Nope.

There was no reaction. Complete indifference. Very funny to hear about the total difference in atmosphere between the fans of the two teams.

Edmonton is no good. Calgary is very good.

One could also suggest he hasn't survived anything as this is the first season other C's have been on the roster to push him. Next year will be his first real challenge.

Better than the female David Jones playing the drums for a Flames win.

More excuses, more moving the goalposts.

Again:

‘I was wrong. Mikael Backlund is not playing in the KHL.’

Up until this season, unexpectedly, we've basically been a KHL team.

I'd be thrilled to be wrong, but the fact is he's getting time because of his colleagues: one is 19, one is in his first NHL season and the other (who was ahead of him prior) is losing his game.

Look at Sven (not a fan of), he couldn't crack the roster and a player taken in later rounds the same year pushed him down the depth chart in his first year?!?!

Tell me some haven't had a lot easier ride?

A) I am a Flames fan first and foremost. I have been since the Jets absolved in the 90s. Check my join date, there were no Jets when I chose this username. It's amazing how many people on this forum will resort to this tired tactic when they're called on nonsense.

B)

YOU SAID BACKLUND IS NOT AN NHL PLAYER

You just completely ignore that and ramble away about the line he's playing on, what previous and current management think of him, where he might be with added depth in the future...

Irrelevant!

You said he wouldn't be in the NHL and you were wrong.

Instead of doing what normal human beings do, you are completely deluded into acting like you never said that and you continue to blather away about nothing. The only person you are fooling here is yourself. You seem to think if you just ramble on people were forget what was being discussed.

No one is going to forget what you originally said, and the subsequent two years you've spent on this forum pretending like you never said it while you continue to act like some kid of authority who's smarter than everyone else.

You need to take a long, long look at what you do here, and then you'll start to see why no one takes you seriously. Do you honestly think it's a coincidence this comes up all the time when you come here to post things calling others out?

Good lord.

Now you're being deliberately ridiculous.

It doesn't matter who the Flames put in net. It doesn't matter if they played the night before in a 8 round shoot out. Your going to lose

Backlund is one of Calgary's best two way players and drives possession. He also is a complete team player that will do anything for his teammates and for the logo on the front of his jersey.

Also I am ashamed to cheer beside you as a flames fan....Please find some humility.

Cheers!

As one of Deryk Engellands biggest critics (or "haters", if you want) from day one of his Flames career, I feel it's time to eat some crow and give credit where credit is due. Engelland has been really good lately and I did not expect that improvement in performance at all. But he indeed stepped up and has done everything he could to help soften the blow of Giordanos injury. Well done sir!!!
