When the Flames return to CGY, is Gio allowed to be in the dressing room between periods? You know, to support, motivate them...

I Can't see why not, he is part of the team after all. I thought that's what he was talking about doing during one of his pressers.

It's unusual, though, for an injured guy to be in the DR. Even if it's Gio, it can be a distraction, and possibly a reminder that they are down a man.

Strong culture, won't change much for me. I think playing 30 minutes a game is not very practical for any player so I think maybe there might be a slide but that is on Hartley to spread out the minutes a bit better. I think picking up Schlemko was good and I think that having Engelland pick up his play will help and hopefully Hartley can trust those guys to play more.
It will be tough without Gio but this is a great team, they play as a team and losing one of the top guys sucks but it isn't the end of our season.

Gio was supposed to have surgery on Wednesday. Has there been update about it or was it delayed?

This team is better than just one guy. That may be the media's perception, but not ours. We've seen this team play, we know they are capable of playing through this. Imo, this makes us play better. Every single player the media interviewed asking about their thoughts on the Gio injury, every single Flames' player said, "We all need to step up our game."
We've built a culture that is so powerful that the Flames will be able to play without Gio in the lineup.

The fact that people are still using the word "sustainable" 65 games into the god damned season is hilarious.

And over 100 games into the season-and-a-half that the team has been playing this way, starting in January of '14.
If it's sustainable for 100 games, it's sustainable, period.
This is where the advanced stats crowd can separate the men from the boys. The boys can go on whining that the Flames have bad Corsi and everything else is pure luck. The men can dig deeper and start working on ways to measure the parts of the game that Corsi does not measure. They won't have a better opportunity than this until the NHL starts to publish real-time RFID tracking data for every player.

Had an idea!

Yeah, especially with the 7 game losing streak, the injuries, the comebacks and the general ups and downs the last 100 games. This team is for real.
You can't play through all that, still find a way to be a very good team with a very good record, and not have it seen as 'sustainable.'

The identity of this team hasn't changed since the inury to Giordano. No obstacle is too hard for the Flames to overcome seems to be the message they are sending to the fans and the media. It started with all the early season injuries and has carried on since them.

Exactly what I said when Gio went down. We were never supposed to be here.
Really, what's changed? We're still not supposed to make it. Now more than ever.
But... thats what they said before...

Fatigue is what happens to other teams in the third period.

... I had a chance to speak with Flames head coach Bob Hartley yesterday afternoon before the game. I asked him what he told his players after they lost Norris Trophy candidate and team MVP Mark Giordano for the season.
Hartley said he addressed the players after Monday's trade deadline because the timing was right, telling them this is their group now, no more help is on the way, that there was no way to replace Giordano. He also talked to his players about owing Giordano all they have and trying not let the season slip away due to his injury, telling them to get inspired by everything the captain stands for in terms of work ethic and character and use it as a group.
Hartley said he also reminded his players what people were saying about their team back in September, that Calgary would be in the Connor McDavid draft lottery. He told his players that now that Giordano was out everyone has written them off again. Well, the motivation speech has certainly worked so far with road wins in Philadelphia and Boston. Hard not to be cheering for the Flames right now to hang in there in the playoff race.
