Default [Audio] Conroy on Leafs Lunch TSN 1050

http://www.tsn.ca/radio/leafs-lunch-hour-1-1.223934

Interview starts around 29 minutes.

- Great update on Sam Bennett. Watched him in Kingston the other night. Likes his intensity but wishes he would engage in fewer high risk plays. Seems to get along with him, and likes that he's an old school type of player would isn't affected by criticism.
- Lots of interesting discussion with Noodles and Oneil about player development these days, some of the differences some of the challenges.
- Liked Sven but thought they have enough prospect depth to get rid of him.

Bahah

Jake Virtanen walks in to the interview, arm in a sling..

Burkie: "How'd you tie up your tie?"

Virtanen: "It was difficult but I can show you how to tie yours"

Fully agree, I've said that about him before on the boards. It's a very accurate comparable.

I really liked Hathaway in the prospect tournament I think it was? Maybe pre-season?

Right handed guy I'm pretty sure

He is a right handed, RW that's about 6'2, 200lbs. Nice size and just eats pucks shift after shift. He is also the AHL Flames leader in power play goals.

I've also liked the looks of Hathaway, ever since the young stars tourny. Bouma's a very good comparable

Can somebody flesh out what was said about Sven? Or was it just a quick comment?

Was this a subtle shot at Sven?

Basically just said he liked Sven, but that they are deep enough they could afford to move him.

Some of his other comments regarding how sensitive some of the young guys are now and how they react to criticism had me wondering if he wasn't thinking of Sven though.

Seemed to be a "subtle shot" at potentially anyone from Granlund to Ferland to Jooris. He implied Bennett was an outlier.

He was absolutely dominant in that 10-0 win. Got the puck out of tight corners to Granlund and Baertschi and just let them wheel and deal. Would be amazing to see him on a line with Gaudreau and Monahan, assuming Hudler switches to a Bennett/Poirier line next year.

Seemed like Conroy liked Sven, he was complimentary before Noodles and the other host even brought him up. McLennan asked about guys in the system besides Monahan, Poirier, and Gaudreau and Craig mentioned guys like Ferland, Grandland, Poirier up front "and I really liked Baertschi but we felt we had to do something there"

The topic about sensitive players seemed like three older guys whining about a younger generation to be honest.

And there's a thousand pages of nuanced, emotional debate on CP boiled down to one line.
