Does it only take one good game to get a multi-million dollar contract on here? Holly cow! Better start the bronze statue for Russell as well, it will just have to wait till the guy finishes building the Wideman statue.

Always like following player for pick trades, years after completion. Will be interesting to look back on this guy in a few years.

How about the (4th-->Colborne) and (4th-->Knight-->Shore) trades?

Zevo just loves to argue. Agree to disagree.
Russell has been an amazing pick up though. I am far from a Feaster supporter but this is by far one of his best moves. I don't think he or whoever scouted Russell could have even predicted this. Only negative, if it even is one, is that Russell sure will be in for a big raise in 2016 if he keeps this up. All signs point to him being the real deal though and only improving, just like Brodie and to a lesser extent Gio. Crazy to think how we've acquired our top 3 dmen. More than one way to skin a cat for sure.

Yeah, this ended up being a steal. I still don't think he had a great arbitration case at the time had he picked him off waivers instead of trading for him, but the cost of being sure ended up being well worth it.

Kris Russell actually deserves a ton of praise for how hard he has competed and how good he has been for Calgary this year.
Posters reacting in this thread were reacting to the player he was. He isn't that player anymore.
Does anyone really think St.Louis waives the 2015 Kris Russell?

Changing your mind, with new evidence, is a good think.
Ignoring the facts and clinging to your original view is what I don't respect.

If they tried, he would just block them.

Majority of the shots that Russell ends up blocking are off the rush or a first chance type shot. Definitely can't say that it's a result of him being pinned in his zone like a Chris Butler when you take tally of what kind of shots are blocked.

With the pick we gave up to, in the end, acquire Shore, Florida drafted Michael Downing, dman playing for U. of Michigan.
With the Colborne pick the Leafs traded it to St. Louis. The Blues drafted Finnish goaltender Ville Husso.

Kris Russell 3.22 blocked shots per game. That's almost 50% higher than the next guy. Wow

Yep I wasn't a fan of Russell at all when he was in Columbus, he was average at best. That whole team was terrible though
Huge supporter now, I have no problem admitting I was wrong about him

Bit surprising seeing Markov so high on that list.
John Carlson would have been a nice pick up for the Flames. Too bad we took Greg Nemisz.

Glad to see Russell playing so well with the captain out. A real heart and soul guy. Funny, he wasn't a shotblocker in junior. More of a takeaway guy, although it helped that the team was incredible and generally had the puck 80% of the game.
Now we just need him to start scoring 30 goals like in junior. Maybe Schlemko is the missing piece!

Sign him to an extension, then. Which I consider to be the same as a re-signing.

Which can't be done until after July 1. He's already under contract for next season and you can't extend a player until the final year of his contract.
