16-Year-Old Survives Lightning Strike; Necklace Is "Atomized"
A 16-year-old Russian girl, Marina Motygina, was hit in the temple by a lightning bolt, it traveled through part of her body and exited near her navel. It melted and "atomized" or evaporated a gold cross necklace and pendant that was around her neck, leaving very serious scars and burns. That said, she survived and is in good health but must remain in the hospital for two weeks.

Wow. Just amazing. I have been struck, indirectly , by lightning and that HURT. I can't imagine being tagged in the temple!

Marina is fine, even her heart is working perfectly well, though usually when a person is struck by lightning, the heart stops immediately. It’s a really unique case. There are only a few people who survived a lightning strike, and most of them develop telepathic or psychic abilities,” says her doctor.

I assume so. I had my own wonderings about it but it was picked up by dozens of media outlets... I have to assume it is.

ken, nfotiu: That's the reason I linked the Edmonton Sun and Ananova along with the somewhat more unusual Russian news site.

I think I believe it. The doctor's quote is pretty wild though.
I like this take on it:

Yah... people believe strange things. Even doctors occasionally have odd ideas. Believe me, I know... I work with them.

It was....1992(?)...we were finishing up our light practice one Friday (football practice, at the University of Windsor) and it was overcast, but nothing terrible. We were by the goalposts, running through our playbook for the game on saturday. We were down in our three-point stance (I played offensive guard), just about to snap the ball when BAM!! Out of nowhere a bolt of lightning hit the goalposts. It was surreal. I felt the electricity travel up through the ground through my hands and feet and crawl through my whole body. My entire body seized up and I (along with the whole offensive unit) collapsed on the ground. I was fine after the shock wore off and it just really really hurt. A lot.

So I could become a Professor Xavier (Not Jean Grey) if I get hit! SWEET!......
I wonder if she will have any side effects. When she gets a bit older too. Memory loss is a popular one also. Funny the doctor didn't mention that one.... Way to keep it positive!

“When it started to rain and thunder struck, I ran to get our things from the meadow. Probably then the lightning struck. I remember falling down and saying, ’I’m unwell.’ Then everything went dark.”
I'm thinking something was lost in the translation there.

Indeed it is, scientifically speaking.
Your brain regulate your functions by sending out Electrical Signals (it is no joke... the idea in "The Matrix" is actually correct) Any outside electrical current running through your body could disrupte these signals, including regulating the heart.
