So when the Flames lift the cup in June, in the Saddledome, we will have a live feed of you standing outside of the front doors.
And the Hockey Night in Canada montage will be you, crying in slow-motion every time we win a game.

I don't know if it means much in this thread and I have no control over timeframes whatsoever, but I have it on good authority something could be announced as early as this week.
If it doesn't happen, well, the thread continues then.

A new Arena will not get built in Calgary for a very long time.
City Council doesn't seem like the right council for a new arena.
If it does get built while Nenshi is still Mayor, I want Nenshi to rapel down to Centre Ice during the Rink's opening ceremonies from the Ceiling (to show just how structurally sound the new roof is for accommodating concerts), then I want him to drop the puck for the opening ceremonies.
Nenshi is not the Hero this City Needs for a new arena.....He is the hero this City Deserves.
I love all things Nenshi.

Kind of a weird week to announce something, Flames being on the road and the Brier in town, are they going to announce something at the Brier?

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here.. but could the Flames potentially be somehow sabotaging the negotiation of some of these concerts that are avoiding Calgary lately (7! so far this year.. seems like a lot) in order to gain public traction and support for an arena?

I hope it ends up being a multi use facility because as bad as the Saddledome is McMahon is 10x worse.

Here is the article of the concerts that are skipping Calgary in 2015. A total of 9 concerts in only one year. Some big names on the list.
It is getting pretty embarrassing for Calgary. They want to be a world class city but some concerts are skipping them to go to Edmonton and even LETHBRIDGE (Journey).
Gotta get this new building going.

A new building does not guarantee those concerts come. For some artists they only do Calgary or Edmonton but not both. Edmonton concert promoters likely already have strong, established relationships with some artists and that always helps. Edmonton will also get a new arena as well so it's not like Calgary getting one as well will ensure all those concerts hit both or start skipping Edmonton.
Besides the only artist on that list of Calgary skipping artists worth seeing is AC/DC, but concerts at McMahon are for the most part a no go so that's not even a building issue.

Why bother with that point? Music is completely subjective and doesn't have anything to do with the discussion.

One of my best friends is the grandson of Frank McMahon. He filled me in on some news regarding plans for the home of the Stampeders which according to this thread ties into news about the new arena.
Anyway, I can't get into details, but what I will say is that I am quite skeptical on the new multi-purpose facility concept, and it would be difficult to see them pulling it off based off what I've heard the plan is on the football side of things. Sorry, I know this is kind of wishy washy, and take it for what it's worth.

In 2011 the country's leading concert promoter suggested to the Mayor's office 2-5 concerts had to bypass Calgary. Suppose the number could go up over time
as stage setups getter elaborate.

Sled Island and other festivals makes Calgary a world class city, not Top 40 shows in a big arena.

That's the same as debating which concerts are worthwhile. One persons awesome festival is another's flaky alternative party.

Actually, I will probably be in one of the 200m long lines waiting for a half hour to take a piss when they win...... Stupid saddledome.
