Question:
Would ya'll have a problem with marrying someone with the same last name as you?
In my culture, Punjabi, we cannot marry someone with the same last name as the parents name, including the mother's maiden name. Risk of being related, something that has continued through generations. We consider our 20th cousins to be our 1st.

I have a pretty uncommon last name (9 of us in my last phone book, 5 of whom are my immediate family), and I would be pretty weirded out by that. I've actually never met someone who has the same last name as me other than relatives.

As a Smith, no, I would've been fine with it. I dated a Smith in ninth grade even, lol.

This seems like as good a place as any to ask... And sorry in advance for the off topic question...
Back around Christmas time, there was a thread about when and how to tell your kids that there is no Santa, and one person gave the best answer ever. I'm pretty sure a lot of people thanked it and quoted it, but I can't find the thread or the post. Anyone remember what I'm talking about?
This topic came up at work and I was so disappointed that I couldn't remember that very thoughtful post.

I see that you have found it, but without looking I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about and the post as well. Malcolm was the poster. It was a super good response, too.

Whether the person is related closely or not is a better question than whether people have the same last name as you.
Generally, there's not really an issue with marrying someone related to you - it is legal in Canada and approximately half of the US States to marry one's first cousin.
20th cousins? It is extremely likely that literally EVERY other Punjabi person you interact with (and many, many more) is much closer than a 20th cousin to you.

As Sliver said, it was Malcolm with the wicked answer. Reply #34 in this thread.

I'm working hard on getting our family to believe in der Krampus!
That was hilarious at Christmas, you try telling a bunch of kids that an evil monster takes naughty children and puts them in his basket and takes them into the woods. Its a tough sell but its worth it!

my mom showed me this website, and apparently it's pretty accurate (she's asked a few friends and coworkers).

Did this accurately predict the gender of your baby?
