The Eagles are clearing cap space for defensive FAs I would think. Sign Maxwell and Revis and their secondary issues are over. McCoy just making too much for a running back in 2015 NFL football, can probably draft a guy or sign a FA off the street (or trade for AP lol...) and get comparable production for much less money.

I don't think they sign Revis, but I think they're all in on Maxwell and McCourty. Probably have to figure that Maclin is re-signed now as well. Another name I'd look for them to sign is Mike Iupati.

Big changes for the Eagles. Reid/Rosemen guys are out the door.

That's a lot of cap space as well. Defense needs an upgrade. SUH!!!

I don't think Suh fits on this team, especially for the price he's going to command.

I think this makes a trade up for Mariota more likely as well. Pretty obvious the Eagles are clearing out cap space so that they can plug their big holes in FA and then not have to worry as much about throwing their draft picks away.

I agree I just really like him. Plus D line is actually one of our strengths.

I also agree in that it feels like a draft trade up.

Mariota is just way too costly to trade up for to be guaranteed of getting him. But that earlier rumour makes more sense for Tampa with Alonso instead of McCoy. Still too much but maybe Chip Kelly doesn't give a damn, go for Mariota and if he gets fired, he doesn't have to clean up the mess.

Yeah, just looking at the draft value chart, 3 first rounders + Nick Foles should be enough to move up to first overall, but I doubt Tampa goes for that. A better target is likely the Jets at #6, which would cost Foles, two firsts, and a second.

It sounds like Kelly is thinking that if he doesn't get a QB that can get him deep into the playoffs in the next two years, that he's gone anyways.

I still think Mariota is ultimately the pick in Tampa and not Winston, just cannot see Lovie tying himself to crab legs. They can buy Mariota time with Glennon for a year or two while he develops. Winston going #1 is based entirely off being "pro ready", but Mariota has better long term upside if developed right. Of course if Chip gets him there's no development to be made and he's the most ready from day 1 QB.

Lovie's track record of developing QBs isn't exactly great, so if I were him, I'd be more likely to go with the more "pro ready" guy than the guy who is potentially a system QB. I'm actually not totally sold on Mariota for the Eagles, but the thought of having Foles stand in the pocket this year with no McCoy to serve as a running threat is terrifying.

Well considering Lovie's history I really don't want him making a decision on a QB, but make it he will. Frightening thought indeed.

Trading a name running back generally benefits the team trading The running back. Marshawn Lynch and Curtis Martin are the only two that seem to have benefitted the other team.

I almost wonder if that's why it makes sense for Tampa to try and trade the pick for as much as they can, get a vet like Foles in there and see what happens. If they bottom out again, they can sack Lovie and let Foles walk as a UFA, and it doesn't end up costing them anything. Then they enter the 2016 draft with a new head coach and some extra picks to in what looks to be a deeper QB class.

Yep.

Maybe can add Corey Dillon as an exception as well.

Wow, would've never thought that McCoy would be moved from Philly. Makes sense since he didn't fit Kelly's system. Personally, I think the Eagles are screwed.

Matt Cassel traded to the Bills. Is he their guy, or just insurance?

They'd be pretty screwed if that's their guy. Then again, Orton wasn't a great QB either and he did decent there.

He can do the same thing that Minnesota used him for. Start the first couple of games while a young QB has a chance to learn the offence and eventually take the job. As a backup QB, I think a guy like Cassel is fine, and gives a good veteran presence that can let a young guy not walk into a bad situation. If he has to play can at least be serviceable, especially for a team like the Bills who have a tough defense. But if you want him to be your franchise QB...not a good idea.
