I can't believe that after the whole "Final Solution" thing from the Draft, TSN hasn't figured out how to screen things out of their Tweet feed.

Dumb of TSN. Very poor taste.

But put me in the camp of people that thinks freedom of speech is more important than Phaneuf's feelings.

I hate defamation and libel laws.

Why does how much money he has play into it? Maybe he will donate it all to a local charity.

He has been destroyed publically by the media in Toronto, and this stupid tweet took it to a whole new personal level.

I think it is good that he is doing it, especially considering the guys that sign those paycheques also own TSN.

Freedom of speech is one thing, making up false stories about someone's personal life is another.

The dummy who made the tweet has every right. Doesn't make it "right" though.

TSN posting the tweet has nothing to do with freedom of speech. They just propagated an dumbass comment.

Sports media, including TSN, can critique Dion's play, but that's about it.

I remember seeing it during the broadcast and thinking how could they possibly put that on there.

Is it necessary to have all these twitter messages on the screen? Do they really add to the show? I find them annoying and usually quite useless. But i am also old.

Kessel let the Toronto media have both barrels today - for how he feels they have been treating Phaneuf.

claiming "player x had sex with the wife of player y" is not freedom of speech.

Apologies come cheap and do nothing to stop them from doing something like this again.

Making them literally pay is the best deterrent.

Hope they clean house, the trend for media to try and cut corners by getting 'free' news from the internet etc is destroying good reporting, it will be good if their attempt to save money on content costs them a fortune.

Sure it is. That's the whole point.

People should be able to say that a player had sex with a donkey, if they want.

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech.

I doubt damages will be "significant", since a) There is no quantifiable loss by any of the wronged parties, b) there was an immediate and unreserved retraction and apology without evidence of malice (by TSN), and c) Much of the negative attention has come from the wronged parties amping up the coverage.

Points for using this word. Using PG insults is a lost art...you scalawag.

But then you don't get gems like Leon "The Final Solution" Draisaitl.

No it's not. Freedom of speech means you're allowed to express your opinions and ideas without being censored or punished. Making stories up about a person isn't an idea or opinion. It's garbage.
