I did stop til Chief asked me a question and I responded to it.
Now you bring it up again. You should take your own advice and just let it be.

I'm not very fussed about Wotherspoon not playing. He's a defence an who can ripen some more IMO.
That said, I'd think only guys who've seen him interact in practice with Hartley can speculate on how the team views him, since Treliving is too careful to diss a player in public. Mind, you, he's not afraid to complement one, and as far as I know he's not said anything effusive about Wotherspoon.

But that would have to happen now for it to make sense.

Darren Haynes said that they need to be in the AHL at the trade deadline in order to be eligible for playoffs.

That's not his game, he's the kind of player who's doing his best work when you don't notice him. He's been playing out of his mind lately.

Yeah I think they changed the rules. You used to have to actually report which made some players on teams who were trying to save cap money do a lot of travelling.

I could have sworn that the latest AHL CBA did away with the clear day stuff. Was rather surprised when Kerr retweeted that message from AHL Communications.
Edit - Vulcan - you are thinking of the old NHL CBA, but it always allowed for paper transactions on trade deadline day for this reason. But all other times, the player had to travel, yes.

I hope he stays up and he gets a chance to play. Why not give him a shot especially with Gio out, it would be nice to see if he can step up and play at this level now, when the games matter.

#Flames top D-man prospect Tyler Wotherspoon finally leaving Philly for Glens Falls. Weather prevented him from leaving last night.

The AHL got rid of the clear day roster, but the NHL CBA still has a rule that an NHL team cannot send a player to the AHL after the trade deadline unless he was recalled from the AHL after the trade deadline (they can also send players on conditioning assignments, but there's a two week time limit and the player has to stay on the NHL roster and get paid his NHL salary during that time). Players can only play in the AHL playoffs if they were in the AHL or a lower league at the deadline (and in the case of college free agents, if they go to the AHL on a tryout contract and not to an NHL contract).

Just for some perspective, T.J. Brodie didn't start to establish himself in the NHL until he was 22-years-old. Wotherspoon will turn 22 this month.

I understand defensemen take longer to develop, that's not the issue.
The issue is having called up Wotherspoon 4 times this season and missing AHL games, only to be benched in place of Diaz, Engelland and/or Potter.
Wotherspoon played last year and looked NHL ready. It's been almost a year and he hasn't got another NHL game in.
I get that Treliving likes to over-rippen his prospects, but at what point does Wotherspoon start taking exception to this?
