Backlumd plays the dumpband chase game, which isn't the style of game Johnny plays. I'd like to see him with Jooris, as Josh is more of a run and gun game that Johnny cab play.

Spelling mistakes aside, what? He's the only centre we have who's comfortable taking the puck in himself and even driving it to the net. Backlund and Gaudreau are the two best puck handlers on the team.

Disagreed, Johnny needs to play with some speed. Mony and Huds are skilled but they are too slow. I do agree I would like to see him play him with Backlund.

I don't see Ferland-Shore-Poirier as a 4th line but, instead, as a Kid Line, something we haven't had in a long time. All of them can skate

I don't see how, just do to injury that Wideman and Russell all of a sudden a top pairing defence pair. I would rather see Brodie play 40min then see these two moved up. Don't mind Russell moving up and eating some more minutes with Engelland bumping up to the 15-18min mark to offset Brodie minutes. Wideman's minutes should be limited, but I would be pushing Brodie to the limits. I can see Brodie leading the league in TOI by end of the season... well if we want to win he should be!

If we want to wear Brodie down and possibly injure him, at least...
Don't over analyze the line rushes in practice. All three of Brodie, Wideman and Russell are likely to end up around 30 minutes again.

I think it's more about keeping Russel and Wideman together for consistency's sake. They've been playing together all year and can make a large difference in knowing where your partner is/what he is going to do.
Really the D situation is just not optimal. Missing our MVP calibre Dman is going to hurt no matter who you put with who.

I just don't see Wideman being able to handle those type of minutes, he is a defencive liability out there. Would rather the minutes 5 on 5 be ate up by other D, rather then Wideman. I'm sure Wideman will start pulling the full 2min on the PP again. Which will push his minutes up regardless.

Homecoming for Johnny Hockey
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...y_Hockey_.html
Quote:
"At the beginning of the season I looked at the schedule and was hoping we would get to Philadelphia as soon as possible," he said last week after a morning skate at Madison Square Garden, his first time in that vaunted building. "I noticed the game was a little bit down a ways, and my goal was to try to stay up as long as I could because it was something I really looked forward to."
Then, still savoring the thought, he added: "Thankfully, I am here."
|
Quote:
What his teammates have admired is the way Gaudreau, last season's Hobey Baker Award winner as the college player of the year from Boston College, has handled all of the notoriety.
"We have welcomed him with open arms, and obviously you see the things he does on the ice that are electrifying, but he is such a good kid off the ice, too," said Calgary center Joe Colborne.
|
Quote:
One of his biggest rewards for this splendid season is three nights at his family's home in Pedricktown, Salem County.
"Honestly, this is one of the best situations," Gaudreau said. "To be in Philly three full days there, we will have a few practices, but other than that I get to go home, have some home-cooked meals, and stay in my bed."
|
Quote:
His father, Guy Gaudreau, said the family has purchased a club box, which includes 30 tickets for the game. And he said a sizable contingent will be at the Wells Fargo Center from South Jersey.
"I think there are about 4,000 to 5,000 who bought tickets for the game," Guy said.
|
Quote:
When Gaudreau was asked which was more special, playing in his first All-Star Game, in Columbus, or coming to Philadelphia, he hesitated momentarily before answering.
"Both are pretty crazy," he said. "That was a really cool experience playing in the All-Star Game, just walking in the locker room and seeing some of the names in the locker room, it was pretty eye-opening."
Then, after deliberating, he added: "Coming home to Philly will be probably just as exciting as the All-Star Game."

Re: Gaudreau - Jooris - Colborne
I think Jooris is an OK fit, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what Gaudreau and Colborne can do together. Colborne likes to play a possession game along the boards and he sees the ice well. This might open up space in the middle of the ice. Open ice and Gaudreau go well together. If the line sticks, I expect to see several good scoring chances.

I'd prefer to shelter Wideman more as well, but that just isn't possible. He's a better defenceman than Diaz, Engelland or Potter are. And we'll see about Schlemko.
The Flames aren't making the playoffs by riding Brodie into the ground. We need all six defencemen to step up. That means putting most of them outside their comfort zones.

As far as Jooris and Gaudreau go, I think that will work. Jooris is adept at crashing toward the net, and Gaudreau is adept at finding guys. That could work. But for a game like tonight, having some bigger bodies on Johnny's side would be a good thing. Honestly, some more sheltered minutes would help too.

I wish we'd give Wotherspoon some time - I think he helps us more than he hurts us especially in this situation.

Colborne holds the puck too long to work well on Johnny's line I think, we shall see.
