We lost a top-6 forward and our best player (to injury) and didn't do anything to push forward.
I realize this is still a rebuild, but you have to show confidence in our players. If we could have sent a 2017 2nd for Chris Stewart to help replace Glencross, why not?

Because he's a plug. Do not overpay for a plug. Ferland will bring more jam.

Pagnotta says the Ducks have dealt Eric Brewer. Is he the kind of fit for CGY?
EDIT Brewer to TOR.

Your wording was strange. We sold off one roster player we weren't going to retain after the season for a good return in a deep draft.
You called that "selling our depth".
We showed when Glencross was out with an injury he wasn't going to make or break us.
As for moving prospects / picks to add a rental like Stewart, I'm glad we didn't. It's a matter of opinion. Calling one player our "depth" isn't.

So is this the end of 2014/2015 Trade Speculation and Rumors?

I think that it is probably more realistic to see some of the hockey trades that we were expecting to be looked into fully at the draft. Teams like Phoenix are still in the market for players with term, and now own 10 000 draft picks, but there wasn't any point in exploring NHL calibre players to join their team in the midst of their dive to the bottom.

Nope.
Teams can still make trades even if the trade deadline has passed.
Lots of rumors and speculation come out near the end of playoffs and for the draft.

Do you mean like unofficial trades? or is this some kind of sick world where TSN spends a full day covering trades on a "trade deadline" that doesn't exist??

Teams can continue making trades after the deadline, however these players are not allowed to be used for the rest of the seeason

Once you're out, you can make trades during the playoffs IIRC.

I thought they could be used during the regular season but not playoffs?

Nope, can make a trade at any time, just cannot use the player in game until next season if you trade for him after the deadline. I'm trying to think of the situation but I think the Flames did it with Reinperict (can't remember how to spell that guys name anymore) once, and he had to ride the pressbox for the rest of the season.

I think the Flames end up being really, really busy at the draft. We have plenty of picks and a lot of young depth, particularly at C and LW.

As much as it sucks, I honestly think Gio going down may be a blessing in disguise. It sucks we probably wont make the playoffs now, but to be fair I didn't think we would get in anyway. Gio getting injured has forced managements hand and made it a much easier decision to collect prospects instead of buying players. Considering the ridiculous overpayment for people this deadline, I am extremely glad we didn't overpay to try and win now. Our time is in the future and stocking our prospect cupboard with this many picks in a deep draft will help us in the long run.
Good times IMO.

I could definitely see the flames making a trade to move up in the draft. Two second round picks plus their first round pick should let them move up a few spots if they find there's a guy they really want.

I hope they don't, I would rather try and hit with one of those 2nd's and stay where we are.

If the draft is as deep as some say, the more picks the merrier.

Yup. If having all these new prospects got this fanbase going, imagine injecting 3 or 4 more defensemen with similar upside to Wotherspoon.
