Beyond hockey ability Russell, Wideman, and Brodie are character guys. I think they are going to step up big time, and even if the Flames miss the playoffs it won't be by much.
Just gutted for Gio not being able to close out his Norris-calibre season.

How long do you think it will set back his injury when he lifts the Stanley Cup over his head in June??
Undrafted and turns into one of the greatest Captains in today's NHL. He had a fantastic run and I hope Mark takes his time and comes back when he's ready and comes back more fierce than before. It's sad to see because he was having such an amazing year and was hands down the Norris winner. If I could trade the 2 points we got that night in New Jersey for Giordano I would. 10/10 times I would.
This being said this isn't it for the Flames. We will stumble these next few games but I really and truly believe that this team can make a push and give the teams around them a good scare.
20 games are left.
This year is not over.
The fight is not over.
Go Flames Go!

Really sad news for Gio, he was having an amazing year and thought he had a real shot at the Norris.
Glad Treliving didn't try to go out and get a high priced rental given this news.

Orrrrrr, we could not give up when we face adversity.
Hell, we're in a playoff spot right now.

I really really hope to the gods now that Wotherspoon gets a legit shot to run out the season. His mobility an outlets passes are great. I do not know why Wotherspoon is being buried by Diaz / Engelland.

One of the stipulations I had for the Flames making the playoffs was that Gio HAD to stay healthy the entire season. This is terrible news. Whatever happens next, this season is still gravy. I hope the boys can use this as a rallying point and if they go down, they go down swinging. If there's one team in the league who can rally around something like this, it's this year's Flames. My mind knows this can possibly be our downfall, but my heart think we'll be okay.

So why didn't we dump more players knowing Gio is out? That would be my question....

A) What message does that send?
B) only real other player with trading is Ramo, and your not getting much

Because we won't tank. We'll go down fighting. We haven't tanked at any point in the last few years, why would we start now?
We currently hold onto the 8th and final playoff position, the players have earned the right to finish this fight.

It boggles my mind that Wotherspoon is not getting a chance to play. So we'd rather play Potter (ceiling is a #7, no potential) and Schlemko (ceiling is perhaps a #5, low potential) Than our best D prospect and #1 D in Addy. This is why prospects request trades.

Who?
No one wants Matt Stajan or Denis Wideman for more than what he's worth to us.
