Good deal for Calgary for a depreciating asset. Well done, Mr. Treliving.

You can draw what you want, especially now, but few management personnel have embarrassed their players like Burke did to Baertschi last winter.
And that's fine if you disagree.

How so? I'll need reminding. I remember Burke embarrassed JH all the way to staying in college another year with short jokes or something..............wait, did that even happen?

Im curious what Burke said about Baertschi that was any worse than what he was saying about JG even before getting him signed. Seems these two guys took the opposite paths for how to respond to criticism.

I'm ok with this, he can go and suck there with the rest of the team.

Called him out, nothing that was that bad IMO.
Seen others been called out much worse then this.

“There are three zones in the ice surfaces in this league. I don’t see that he’s learned to play and compete in two of them. He’s got to learn there’s a clock in this league and there’s so many minutes in the game and that you’ve got to compete through all of it. I see this is a guy who’s focusing on one area [scoring] and even then, sporadically,” Burke said. “So I don’t know what we have.
“I’m not ready to quit on a young kid. I’m not ready to throw him under the bus here today and rip him, but I think you can tell from my comments that I see big holes and I see a lack of commitment that’s not going to get him anywhere in my books.”

IMO the poor relationship started at development camp that offseason, where it had been reported that Sven didn't want to attend and the Flames made him.
Downhill ever since then. Baertschi felt he was entitled to be in the NHL (asking for a trade and refusing to re-sign seems to prove this) and the Flames were not happy with him and had him in the AHL.

Wished the poll's neutral option was "Both teams got value."

Well now he's not a prospect I feel I can call it the way I saw it. I honestly thought he was hot garbage for the Flames over the past two seasons when he played for the big club. It's the reason when we did our summer rankings I had him low as I simply don't think he's as good as we thought he would be as a junior. He didn't even stick out in the AHL as anything special. The Canucks can have him good luck with him thinking Desjardins is going to hand him a roster spot on a silver platter because that's not going to happen. Maybe the light will turn in in Vancouver that he's going to be expected to play at both ends of the ice but if it doesn't the next time we hear about him in a transaction it will probably be waivers.

Just glad he's gone so we don't have to hear people complain that he wasn't called up.

The quote by Sven and Treliving's statement salt it away. Who did Sven think he'd beaten for a spot on the Flames at the beginning of the year? When he did get his chance, who did he outplay to stay up or to get better minutes?
I don't want a player who has to be given minutes and coddled to get his confidence up. I especially don't want a player who says "I need to be more confident" because that means it's always on his mind. And if he wanted out, then Treliving was in a bind and also showed class by getting him a spot elsewhere. I imagine he could have gotten a lesser return from some rebuilding team, like a fourth or so. No cup contender would be interested.

I'm guessing he is referring to this (on Baertschi's training camp):

1. He wanted out
2. He was waiver eligible next year
3. a 2nd for a non-NHLer is a good deal.
Brad did good.

I think Sven's got to look in the mirror. He was a first round pick and now he's been traded for a second rounder. What's next for him? Will he pick himself up and compete or will he pack it in and be traded for a bag of pucks and a fifth rounder?
I'm a big believer in accountability and regardless of what Burke said and Burke's intention, the reality is that Sven had a choice of how to respond and he did not respond in a way that made him succcessful. He better figure out how play and how to have the right attitude pretty darn quick or he's not going to last long in Vancouver either.
