so a guy with 8 AHL goals is asking for a trade and stating he won't re-sign after his entry level deal is up? If that is true GTFO

Default Flames trade Baertschi to Canucks for a 2015 2nd round pick

So has there been a firm confirmation that it's a 2015 pick?

EDIT: Likely a mistake by the Herald as the Canucks do not have a 3rd round pick.

Only issue I have is that he was traded within the division. 2nd round pick is decent value for someone who the organization obviously had no faith in.

I don't understand the logic here. Poirier is RW, Bennett is a C, Monahan is a C.

If it's a 2015 pick it's not so bad. My initial reaction was due to the reported 2017 2nd rounder.

I still honestly believe that Baertschi will be a 50 point winger. Won't know who won this trade for a couple seasons, by then we'll know what Baertschi becomes and who we draft with that 2nd rounder.

and obviously if Baertschi asked for a trade, it handcuffs the team somewhat.

That's a lot of early picks, especially if we also get Van's 3rd, and assuming it is Van's 2nd in 2015, as reported.
It's still not on nhl.com, though...
The Van pick is 2017!!!

Sad to see him go. Was really hoping he would turn around and make the team. But...if he wanted out and requested to be traded, then good riddance, and best of luck.

WOW... for anyone that wonders why he wasn't given one more shot, there you have it.

Honest question. Does Sven even make the top 6 for Van? He may still hit the waiver wire next year.

Very interested to see how Willie Desjardins deals with Sven. I think old Willie is cut from the same cloth as Hartley.

His stock has fallen since draft day, which is ironic considering the huge spike upward he took the first year after the draft. It's not just his numbers either, it's his stagnation in his development in so many areas of the game that are crucial to be a good NHLer.

I'm not happy about the return, but it's mostly because Baertschi has ruined his own trade value. For a player that was going to have to clear waivers next camp and be lost for nothing, this is excellent asset management.

Not writing Sven off completely, but nothing he's done at the pro level makes me think he'll be anything more than a below average scoring winger in the NHL.

Yep. Sven has been overrated overall by the fan base because of his early success. He really hasn't progressed much since then.

An indication of this overrating was our prospect poll this summer when Sven was ranked by the "majority" ahead of guys like Poirier and Granlund who based on their production and potential had passed him already by last summer IMO and I argued it at the time. Another mediocre season and it was obvious he was behind Bennett, Monahan, Gaudreau, Poirier, Granlund, Backlund, Hudler, and perhaps even Ferland. So where does he fit long term? He just didn't force his way into our future plans. That's the bottom line. He impressed the least out of all of our top end prospects.

They may try it... he only has to be better than Chris Higgins & Derek Dorsett.
