Yzerman, wtf? Crazy overpayment. If that's what Coburn is worth then I retract all comments about the desperate need to find a top 4 defenceman today.

Agreed, what a ridiculous trade.

Detroit's was even more baffling though.

We should target gudas somehow. See if the flyers would trade him for picks or something.

With returns like this, we should be seeing what we can get for most anyone. Now is the time to sell

Top four defencemen are valuable commodities which was why it was rich that many fans were saying the flames should just pick one up as though it was easy.

Almost every team in the hunt wants to add more depth at d, especially a guy who can reliably pay 20 mins a night. They're essentially the rarest players outside of elite talent.

While both have great potential, Gudas is quite a bit more established than Wotherspoon, but the Flames first will be 10+ spots higher than Tampas.. still would have probably cost Wotherspoon + 1st + NYR 2nd.

No thanks.

It was such an overpayment by Tampa that the flames did a good job not paying it. I still can't believe the price. We need to find a way to cash in

Yup. No way we give up whats needed for a top 4 dman. But..we have a top 4 dman we could give up. Lets be honest its year 2 of rebuild we arent serious contenders. The season is already a success no matter what happens from now untill the end. We need to see if we cant get some more top 90 picks and blue chip prospects. I'd be ok with moving any / all of Wideman, Jones, Raymond, Stajan and our lower tier prospects on the farm like Agostino, Hanowski, etc.

Target young defencemen, picks, young RW with size, plus other needs in the organization.

We would be kicking ourselves if we finish the season 9-10th in the west and dont cash in on decent seasons for aging players on bad contracts who wont be around when we are contenders in 2-3 years. Im thinking wideman, jones in particular should be moved.

I don't get the hype for Coburn. Yeah he's not a bad defenseman but they paid one of the highest prices we've seen in a few years at the deadline. Major overpayment but I guess they are going all in.

With the deals we're seeing for reliable and productive d-men, I think we just have to recognize that's their value in today's NHL.

Given that last year no one would trade high picks and this year teams are giving up high picks left and right... seems pretty clear that this draft's deepness has been wildly overrated.

Wow incredible. Hextall fleeced Stevie Y!

A 1st and 3rd I can believe, but adding in Gudas too?? He's a beast.

Or Gudas + 3rd should've been sufficient...

Boy, I hope Calgary are looking at dealing Russell, Wideman, England or Giordano right now.

The return could be outrageous.

Anyone know which 1st rounder it was that Tampa traded? They have their own as well as the Rangers right?

I feel like you're trying to troll the board when you throw out Giordano's name.

Probably not going to happen considering he is injured, just remarking on the return.

I would have traded Wideman for Gudas straight up at the beginning of the year and ran away screaming with glee.

Giordano for 2 1sts, a young, good roster player and a blue chip prospect...Yes please.

Love the deal for Philly. TB is win now mode, and they already have so many good young players that losing picks won't sting that much. Win - Win.

Gudas is a big tough guy that is hard to play against. Hope that he can be like Hamonic and develop some puck skills.
