Too much for a one dimensional player like Yandle.

Arizona also gets a 2nd:
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
So complete deal Yandle and Summers and a 4th for Duclair, Moore a 1st (2016) and a 2nd in 2015. Yotes retain 50% of Yandle's salary.

I think Flames management is actually very strict in this regard.

Just from years spent watching this team, I think they have a policy in place, wherein they will spend to the cap every season (or spend as much as they could prior to the cap), and they will spend whatever it takes to bring in the off-ice personnel the organization needs, etc.

But they draw the line in that they will not pay players to not play hockey for them.

They exceedingly rarely buy players out, they don't bury big contracts in the minors or overseas, and they don't retain salary on trades.

The only recent exception I can think of is Shane-o-Rama, and that was a very small contract, for a depth defenceman, who was playing in the AHL.

I think it's just a general policy of the Flames that they will give the manager whatever he needs, and they will spend to the cap every year. But they draw the line at throwing away money to cover up the managers mistakes, ala the Rangers.

I think it's a great way to run things, to be honest.

Oh please...didn't you just a thread few days ago or a random rumor cuz someone fed you the info?

He would've been told the info and he put it out there, highly doubt he was guessing.

This trade perfectly exemplifies how a player's value is whatever someone will pay, NOT what fans think ON AVERAGE.

If someone proposed this, we would have all shot it down as ridiculous overpayment for a guy like Yandle.

The lesson: trading skills are very important and negotiating the best deal is everything. Taking the 'this guy is only worth a 2nd' approach is folly.

Maloney is one of the most underrated GMs in the league. He is getting maximum value for both Vermette and Yandle here. Amazing the return we got for Bouwmeester in retrospect. Hoping Maloney rubbed off on Treliving a bit.

Dmen going for a kings ransom right now. I hope the Flames are dangling Russell and Wideman (even if only half serious) just to see what they would return.

That is a great return for Phoenix. This is definitely been a good year for the sellers.

What a deadline for the Coyotes. Not just some 1st round picks, but decent prospects as well.

Phenomenal job so far. Their rebuild has officially passed Edmonton's rebuild.

Arizona knocked it out of the park with these past two trades. Duclair paired with Domi, two firsts this year with one being very close to 1st overall and two first next year. Killer. Things looking up in Arizona.

Really? I don't think so. Especially not once it was revealed that Yandle had 50% salary retained.

It's a 24 year old defenseman who's yet to solidify his position as a regular NHL defenseman. A late first round pick and a prospect who was drafted 80th overall less than 2 years ago (although he looks to be on quite the upward trajectory).

I'm not a huge fan of Yandle, but a top prospect and a 1st round pick is the exact trade that I would expect to see land him.

Yotes are killing it. Rangers have an insane defense now and look poised for a cup run

That's kind of like calling Gaudreau a 104th overall pick - true, but not even close to reflective of value.

Duclair is worth more than the late 1st. And they got a 2nd.

Yandle is one-dimensional.

This is huge over-payment

One thing Darcy Regier definitely knows to do is sell off a team for a rebuild.

Phoenix has been firmly situated in mediocrity for years. Lets not get crazy. He got good value, but he's been average for a long, long time.

After listening to Treliving and Hartley today. You're going to need a brinks truck full of picks and players to pry Russell out of CGY. His value to them far exceeds and reasonable return they may get for him on the trade market.
