With the winger depth on the team and in the system there is no room for a guy like Glencross who wants term and to be paid like a top 6 forward when he is 33 next season. Glad he agreed to waive and glad we got the return we did. Works out for everybody

My prediction: Glencross gets hurt and misses playoffs.

Would've been happy with a 2nd so to get two picks is pretty nice. Load up on this draft and see if this team can be a serious contender in 3-4 years. Good job BT.

Wow. Glencross is valuable and did so much for Calgary. And this is what you put as your final remarks.
The Caps found a great player both on and off the ice, and I wish Curtis the best as he goes for the Stanley Cup this year on a team that has a decent chance to do so. I think he'll fit well under Trotz' system.
|
For a 2 month rental, particularly the way he's played lately, I would have been happy to get a 3rd round pic in this upcoming draft... which by the way is touted to be a very deep draft. I really didn't expect to get the bag of used pucks.
In hockey, its what have you done for me lately... not what did you do 3 years ago.
I'm sure Curtis is a fine gentleman and well loved in the dressing room and I wish him all the luck in the world... but if the Caps expect Glencross to start scoring goals for them, he'd better play a hell of a lot better than he's done for Calgary lately.
Good luck Curtis.

You can't just send the guy off with good wishes?
I was never a huge Glencross fan, but I wish him all the best with the Caps.

So now it's time to officially root against Glencross and the Caps, so we get better draft picks?
Sorry GlenX, but you can go ahead and win the cup next year.

so this is the last official piece from the flames playoff team of the last decade. the overhaul is complete, and new blood in every facet of the roster.

If it was a first rounder yes. For a 2nd / 3rd two or three spots won't make a difference if who we get every team is looking at 2 or 3 guys and they are usually still there

Good on Treliving to set a price and be patient, there had to be some concern when most of the comparables were getting moved so early.
Glad Glencross is going to a team where he has a great chance to make some noise. I've always said I'm not a huge fan, but there was no arguing his commitment and passion for the team. I think any team getting Glencross is likely to see on of those scoring streaks that he gets one. Ultra motivated.
For the Flames so much flexibility in the draft, and a deep one at that. The had 4 picks in the top 64 last year, 3 first rounders and four in the top 67 in 2013 and will now have 5 in the top 80 range this year.
That's the way you bolster a rebuilding team.

Its not just what he does with the puck...its what he does away from it and particularly in the offensive zone. When he is on his game he creates a lot of space for other guys with his physical play. Its why i have thought that he should play with Monohan and Hudler of late, but thats hindsight now.
He apparently will be playing with Backstrom and Ovechkin. That wont hurt his contract negs in UFA.

Went to check Caps fans reactions. Reactions seems to be mostly "ok". No real excitement or disappointment, but not much fretting over the price either.

Great trade for the Flames. Good thing Treliving didn't panic and trade Glencross for the first decent offer.

Sure seems that way unless the Flames bring another forward in tomorrow. I think he should remain up, no one else on the big club possesses his combination of size/physicality/skill. Work to be done for sure but you can see him putting it together each game.
