Ok move. Needed NHL depth before the Gio injury, since Smid's situation looks questionable. May not be more than Diaz or Englland but age is right and gives more options at expense of Potter and Wotherspoon at very least.

Plus, nothing given up outside of waiver priority and sill a day to make some more adjustments at the back end.

highly doubt it. Nobody is taking Engellands contract. Smid is injured. Diaz has played decent, plus he's a right handed shot, so why move him? It's probably just a depth move. Wotherspoon can go back down to help Adirondack and Schlemko adds depth to the blueline while Gio is out.

And most importantly, it probably kills the Bryan Allen rumours, and we should all be thankful for that.

Remember Aaron Johnson?

Pretty much what Schlemko is now. Depth defenseman who can skate and move the puck, but nothing special really.

Really like this move in the context of above.

The price is right. Still hope flames put in a bid for John Moore of NY Rangers.

Much better option to fill the hole than Bryan Allen. And you don't have to give up any assets.

I don't understand why Wotherspoon isn't getting a chance this year.

Millions points out that Schelmko and Russell were a defence pairing in Junior

I dig it.

Huge improvement on Potter IMO. Anytime you get better (even marginally) I am happy.

Russell and Schlemko played a full three seasons together in the WHL. No idea who much of that was on a pairing together though.

2004-05
Kris Russell - 72 GP, 26 G + 35 A = 61 P, 37 PIM +29
David Schlemko - 65 GP, 5 G + 24 A = 29 P, 23 PIM +15

2005-06
Kris Russell - 55 GP, 14 G + 33 A = 47 P, 18 PIM +8
David Schlemko - 69 GP, 9 G + 35 A = 44 P, 44 PIM +17

2006-07
Kris Russell - 59 GP, 32 G + 37 A = 69 P, 56 PIM +14
David Schlemko - 64 GP, 8 G + 50 A = 58 P, 78 PIM +12

Me neither. I sincerely believe that if they put him in right now, he's better than Potter, Engelland and Schlemko. The kid has been absolutely tearing it up in Adirondack the last little while. He's a wall.

Pretty disappointed with all these callups and no ice time.

They wouldn't need to send him down with Giordano going to IR, would they? Or does him going down mean Raymond is back?
