Hmm, seems unnecessary unless the Flames are trading away a defenseman...

Yeah Treliving would be familar with him, makes sense to add depth in case of injury.

Gio out longer than expected? Team grabbing a NHL body to prepare for that likelihood?

Now they can send Wotherspoon back down to Adirondack and help them make their playoff push. He's their number 1 Dman. This is great news for them.

Brainfart. Yep he is a defenseman.

Security against Giordano's injury I guess.

Schlemko is decent.

He consistently made everyone he was on the ice with last year, better. Bot quite as good this year, but still decent.

Wouldn't he just take Wotherspoon's place on the farm?

There's some talk. Can skate, move the puck, works pp.
Otherwise he would have been traded twice last season

would have to waive him again to get him down to Adirondack. Flames have to keep him in the NHL.

I'm far more happy about this waiver claim then I should be.

I like Schlemko. He will fit in with the Flames system better then he did with Arizona.

If I'm not mistaken I believe he and Russel were D partners in junior. May have some existing chemistry there.

Without grabbing a legit #3-4 Dman (not easy to come by) I'm not upset with the scattershot approach we have at trying to fill our our D right now.

Not a fan of Engelland, but not upset we tried. Considering everyone was screaming to remove Wideman leading into the year you can see the results of 'every position is available, earn it' on even veterans. For all we know, Schlemko is going to put up career stats.

Of Schlemko, Engelland, Smid, Diaz, Wotherspoon and Potter... the push for 5 and 6 doesn't look too bad IMO.
