If OEL is truly on the market, then I think Backlund is one of the pieces which would have to be in play to go the other way (along with more of course).
Backlund would fetch a nice prize, especially if we can get him signed to a reasonable extension, possibly as a sign and trade at the draft.

Depending on the return for Glencross, say like the one Vermette got. Could we throw a 1st or two 2nds plus prospect at Yotes for Yandle if he would do a sign and trade? I don't see Yandle hanging on in Arizona IMO.
Or if OEL is available I would be looking at moving some of the prospect depth. Baertschi + 2nd for OEL.

Dont think Treliving moves Hudler or Backlund at this point, those would be summertime deals.
One of the G's getting dealt would not be shocking at all....still think you get a lot more for Hiller than Ramo.
|
Why would they move Hudler at all? I would think they would work hard to extend him.

Yandle would be an ok add, but he is nothing special. He has to be sheltered immensely to be effective and the Flames already have to do that with Russell and Wideman.
Add him if you can for a reasonable price, but he isn't much more than a number 4 Dman on a decent team.

I think Hudler's production and contract makes him highly sought after. It would come as no surprise that many teams would inquire about his availability.
He'd be available but only at a high price.

Interesting...I would think he's be heavily pursued right now. I thought he was a good two way defender but I guess he's more offensive then?

What % of deadline deals work out? 5%? 10%? People point out Gaborik last year, but how many Vanek type trades are there for every Gaborik?

It is a common misconception that Yandle is a UfA. He is actually signed for another year after this.

Usually it only works if you have 90%+ of your roster ready to go as a contender and are adding that little extra. Gaborik last year for LA was a perfect example. The Hawks adding Timonen and Vermette will probably have similar good effects on them as long as they can weather the storm till Kane returns in round 2.
If your team is lacking a few things though, like most teams in the middle/lower part of the playoff picture, you're likely throwing good assets away for nothing. Florida did something smart by dealing off and adding without sacrificing much if it goes sideways.

I bet you if you take Mike smith back the price drops considerably.

Not really sure how playing 24 minutes a night allows a player to be "sheltered immensely".
That is a really bad team right now and i think more than a few of those guys will have a re-birth if sent to a new setting. Yandle has some deficiencies in his game, no question, but he is an upgrade on every Dman in calgary save for Brodie and Gio.
He fits in with the whole "great skating, puck moving, offensive instinct" dman narrative that the Flames seem to be leaning to as a strategy. Offense starts from the backend on this team more than any team in the NHL IMO.

I had the same question as you did. First of all, Glencross is not as valuable as Vermette. Second, OEL will go for way more than Baertschi and a second. That assumes he's even available.

Alex Prewitt @alex_prewitt
.@CraigCustance reported "significant interest" from teams in Dallas RW Erik Cole. Heard the Capitals have been among those now discussing.
.@alex_prewitt Capitals on his list of teams in which he'd accept a deal.

Yes,
Baertschi, 1st or 2nd + for OEL.
But it would depend on Glencross return.
