You can see why Treliving has been pretty aggressive by all reports in terms of attempting to take on other teams' bad contracts for an added asset.

IE:
  • Cam Ward + 7th overall pick
  • Ribeiro 12th overall pick
  • being in the Horton talks.

We've been looking for a great cap resource to use on the show. Thanks!

What made capgeek great was the fact his information was impeccable. You can sell site but you can't sell your sources and without the sources it would be no better than any other site.

It's not even as good as nhlnumbers IMO, except for salaries there's no player details at all.

the source is better than nhlnumbers though. nhlscap was the best site before capgeek came along.

After next year, things are looking a lot togher.

Gio, Russell, Monahan, Gaudreau all to re-sign (+20M to those 5 players) as well as 2 goalies. Only contracts coming off are Hudler and Jones, which we both would want to re-sign.

Engelland, Smid, Raymond all have another year after (~3M each) and Stajan for 2 more years... so all the contracts we would want to shed, we're still on the hook for.

This year, and next only, are where we'd want to be able to take others' anchors. Otherwise, we got to start watching our own cap.

I still use capgeek on the wayback machine. Soon it won't have much relevance but it still gives individual salary histories and their NTC restrictions in a lot of cases.

Spotrac.com is decent too.

I'm not sure how far back previous salaries go but they have them. Although I am not a fan of the layout.

I think our being in the Horton talks were directly tied to our being inquiring on Jack Johnson as well.

To your point - we'll take on bad contracts but it will cost you.

I like it, we have lots of flexibility. But need to be smart. Guys like Smid, Stajan, Raymond and Engelland are making way to much.

Raymond - yes
Engellend - yes
Smid - not by much. When healthy the guy can play. He's not been healthy often for us though.
Stajan - not by much. Veteran center who can play up and down the lineup, produce, not be a distraction. I think that is a fair contract.

I like Smid. I also don't mind Raymond and Stajan. Engelland should be a 7th Dman.
