you didn't think the game was on the line in the 8th?

I agree up by only 1 run in the 8th.. seems to me the game was on the line at that time.
Doc was ok last night but not at his best.. Why not go to a guy that has been dominent most of the year.

2 out nobody on, team's best pitcher, cy young award winner, just my opinion, but you ride your horse, when I'm saying game on the line i'm referring to a runner in scoring position.

Okay then, every Manager in BaseBall will go with the Percentages, in this case the best percentage was to go with Ryan.
Keep in mind it was a hot day in Toronto and Halladay did not have his best stuff. I am sure the Jays knew Doc was tired.
Ryan has been great this season and has been brought in lots of times with 2 out in the eight. Plus he has an ERA under 1.00 and has been totally awesome this year.
Did you notice that Doc has only one complete game this year?

I think we're arguing potato/potahto here, I see your point, but Gibbons just last week didn't go to Ryan in a worse situation and it cost his team, just seems like he jumped the gun a little last night. As for percentages you're bang on, but Gibbons has been more of a old school manager rather than a Carlos Tosca who followed the percentages with blind faith, I like the guy(Gibbons) just think he struggles with pitching decisions.

Here is the reasoning for bringing Ryan in.
1) Giambi has good career #s vs Halladay, .340 average in 47 ABs.
2) Halladay didn't bring his best stuff to the park last night.
3) Giambi is left handed, Halladay is right.
4) BJ Ryan has allowed 3 hits against lefties before last night, all season.
I thought far and away it was the right move, Ryan has been absolutely dominate vs. LH this season and has been putting together an amazing season as well.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
But your point is valid that Gibby has struggled w/ the bullpen this season.

Latest on Hillenbrand:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/printe...ck=1&cset=true
Competition for the right-handed hitter could drive up the price, though. At least seven teams — the Angels, Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres — expressed interest in Hillenbrand Thursday.
"We've had a lot of interest," said Toronto General Manager J.P. Ricciardi, who is looking for starting pitching. "Some I've liked, some I haven't liked. We'd like to get a guy who could help us in 2006 or 2007, but that doesn't have to be the case."

TORONTO (CP) - Gregg Zaun says he tried to be a friend to Shea Hillenbrand, tried to give his former teammate advice on how to cope with his unhappiness over his role on the Toronto Blue Jays.
But when Zaun walked into the clubhouse Wednesday and saw that Hillenbrand had written "Play for yourselves" on the team's clubhouse board, he felt compelled to act. Irritated, Zaun took a marker, added "or your paycheque" to the board "and said, `Isn't this what you really mean?"'

Breaking news on The Score.................
Hillenbrand & Chaulk traded to the Giants for pitcher Jeremy Accardo.
Anyone have any info on this guy, and if so, is it a good trade?

Bj's win against NYY again, and trade Hillenbrand to the Giants with Chaulk for Accardo, a young relief pitcher.
Circus is over, JP gets a warm, younger roster player. Can't really complain about that.

Here's the TSN link:
Accardo, 24, has appeared in 38 games with the Giants this season, compiling a 1-3 record with a 4.91 ERA and three saves.
The right-hander has allowed 38 hits in 40.1 innings, walking 11 and striking out 40.
He made his big-league debut in 2005, appearing in 28 games and posting a 1-5 record with a 3.94 ERA.

Pretty solid return.
Hillenbrand had no value and Chulk is garbage. Accardo is young and has some pretty impressive stats in both his years. His ERA is a little high this year, but ERA is pretty useless IMO to judge relievers. His 1.21 WHIP is damn impressive.
From reading through a couple of Jays boards it sounds like the guy has a 95+ MPH fastball which he relies heavily upon. Although Accardo's a righty, he's absolutely dominated lefties in his short career (.182 vs left, .265 vs right).

It's good for the Jays to get a strong righthanded pitcher in the bullpen, too.
I really like where this team is headed. The batting is solid, the top three in the rotation are strong and the bullpen has been very good lately and will only get better with Accardo.
If they can pick up a #3 type pitcher before the deadline they'll be in the race until the end of September and with a few bounces they might just win the division.

If Lilly can keep the way he's playing the Jays rotation might be okay the rest of the way.
Since the start of June, Lilly's had 8 starts and 7 have been very solid (ERA under 4.50 for the game). If he can keep up that kind of production he's a very good #3. Add in the fact that Chacin is expected to be back for August 8-9 and that fills a major hole in the bottom of the rotation. Chacin has struggled this year, but he's proven he can put up quality starts at a major league level for an extended period of time - something Janssen hasn't been able to do.
If anything I'd see if Janssen can turn it around and if Marcum is the real deal before making a deal. If both of them falter, try and find a cheap veteran arm to shore up the #5 spot for the stretch run.

Really solid trade for JP. Get some help in the pen, a 24 year old that can throw 95/mph stuff.

Nice move JP, as for San Fran, very weird move imo, with Feliz at third I guess Hillenbrand will play first, good luck with that. Greg Zaun should be given a contract extension for taking on Shea's bush league attitude, oh ya he can play a little too.

Too bad the Braves decided to get going, I was hoping for Smoltz (aka Jack Morris pt.2) as his presence would be huge, he has american league stuff as well. Other than him I don't really see a whole lot out there that would be a huge improvement over Janssen.
