Flames will not move Bennett, Monahan, Gaudreau.

I could see all other young assets on the table for OEL but it won't happen. Wishful thinking at best.

Duha thinks Schenn is a good option for calgary due to age and need

Problem with Michalek is he hasn't played any of the game the Flames were heavily scouting the last week. Hasn't played in forever. Would come cheap in terms of giving up assets as it would likely be a conditional pick. BUt the question is, is it worth it only to have him get injured yet again.

Philly is back in the playoff mix albeit barely and will not likely make any selling deals. A hockey trade may work for them.

Really? So a mid 1st, an unproven young goalie, and a former 1st rnd pick who has struggled to make his NHL team is worth a very young stud Dman? Think about it.

Exactly. None of those players are moving but you would have to in any deal for OEL which is why there is no deal to be made.

Saying in general Dissentowner, there is some serious over-evaluations on here for OEL.

I don't know, what is the value of a pre-apex superstar D man?

OEL is unrealistic. I don't care what fans think the required cost is because we are wrong 99.99% of the time.

What is true though is that OEL is an incredible piece of a re-building foundation that no team should logically give up for any circumstance.

OEL is ARZ's Monahan. I know I wouldn't move Monahan for the World.

Stajan, Raymond, Hanowski for OEL should get it done. Maybe add a 3rd.

I don't watch a ton of the Yotes but he is a .5 ppg dman who is going to be 24 this summer. Is he a superstar though or just a top 2/3 dman on most teams? Is he any better than Brodie?

He is a superstar and already a number 1, and he is better than Brodie.

I think on a good team he is Norris contending #1 D man. I would trade Brodie for him in a nanosecond.

Here's a list by NHL.com at the start of the season for the top 14 defenseman.

Maybe not the perfect list (wouldn't have Chara so high right now), but still a decent list to demonstrate how highly Ekman-Larsson is touted. In my opinion, he's well above Brodie's level and that's not an insult at all to Brodie.

Wow, I find it hard to consider trading Brodie for OEL. Is he really that much better?

Would he play more than Gio if he was here and push Brodie down to the 2nd pairing?

If it was cheap I'd like to take a chance on Schenn. He's only 25, big, right hand shot, former 5th overall. With some work and decent coaching he could be a low risk - high return gamble. Depends on how much Philly would want of course.

Issue for Schenn and fitting into the Flames is foot speed. Engelland is a better skater. At least I think so. Especially when it comes to transitioning from skating forwards to backwards. Not an agile dude by any stretch of the imagination. Can he change that through a new work out regime? Probably.

We tried some slow, plodding D men in Smid and Engelland, and they simply don't fit in our system. I don't know why we are being linked to a series of this kind of defenseman by everybody. Whomever Treliving decides to target, the one thing that I can guarantee is that they will be able to skate.

It's why I'm pinning placing all my chips on Yandle coming to CGY. Still under term too.

#1 defensemen usually don't average 6 seconds of icetime a game on the penalty kill.

Ekman-Larsson is without a doubt the #1 in Arizona and rightfully so. He is the far more rounded player.

Ekman-Larsson is the better overall defenseman. Wont find many Coyote fans who disagree.

Yandle is, at this time, the better offensive player but there's a reason only one of them kills penalties frequently. Ekman-Larsson goes up against the opponents top lines, starts mostly in the defensive zone (compared to Yandle who starts nearly 60% of the time in the offensive zone) and also is getting a minute of ice-time more than Yandle this year.
