It's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.
The Flames are trying to land a certain Defenceman and they are slow on reporting this because then they are behind the 8 ball, and then are labeled desperate.
So deep breathe!
Why would holding back information on a short term injury hurt the Flames?

If anything the speculation that it is a long term injury hurts them more in trade negotiations.

Dude on the internet has spoken, who are you to question him?

What is your record of tips/breaking news/insider connections?

Seriously, some people just don't get it.

Not really sure how this is a "fiasco" .... just playing the cards close to the chest. Can't really blame them.

I know it sounds cliché, but when your top dog goes down, it is a huge opportunity for other players to step up. Overcoming adversity when it arises is one of the things that turns good teams into great teams, so Gio being out will be a good test and learning experience.

We don't even know if it's an injury, they probably just have a trade in the work for him.

Why is it a fiasco? He is not one player...he is the best player. That impacts most teams in a not good way.

To me, it really wouldn't be fair for Potter to be up and sitting in the press box the whole time, then someone goes down with an injury, they call up Wotherspoon and Potter still sits in the press box? Wouldn't be a way to treat guys IMO.

Who is more likely to play better for you, Potter or Wotherspoon? You go with the guy who you think will play better and never look back.

The organization has seemed to go to great efforts to treat players respectfully. I think that's important as well.

Next man up! Hopefully he's not out more than a game but injuries are part of the game. This is a great time to see what the players on the roster are made of.

So you play Potter and Wotherspoon sits. Wotherspoon feels like he should be out there and is deserving of it.

Either way you are going to have a player who wants to be playing, and part of being professional is knowing that it's a team game and sometimes you have to suck it up and do what's best for the team.
