allen is a possible 6/7 dman (ie. if we were shipping out engelland). Big, slow, physical.

If extras mean Bryan Allen, I'm pretty sure guys like Cundari, or Yonkman could be called up in a pinch. Maybe Sena Acolatse as well. Not like there aren't any D men in Addy.

Agreed. Let's have a look at a Wotherspoon or Kulak.

People need to relax, it would be for really cheap depth. After Wotherspoon who do we have to call up? Cundari? Acolatse? Kulak? Ramage? Sign Yonkman and call him up? On top of that Allen could probaby be had for a conditional 7th if not just a swap of 7th round picks. I really wish people would think for a second before making a big deal about nothing.

Kulak was overwhelmed in the AHL and you want to call him up? Why don't we just trade him to Edmonton if the goal is to ruin his development

With Gio being hurt now and sounding like fairly long term the flames are likely going to alter plans. I get the feeling they will sell of Glencross and the have a 2011 type deadline. The team is on the race and will pick up garbage fringe depth. Feaster snagged Carson of waivers and traded the 7th for Freddy Modin. I could see Treliving adding weak D depth and maybe a fringe forward to replace Glencross (might just use prospects to fill the void up front however)
Pang did mention the Flames offered a 4th for Bergenheim during Wednesdays telecast

Allen is playing in the AHL right now. Never bad to have depth Dmen. Would probably also help the farm for their stretch run if he isn't being used up here.

I am OK with bringing in Allen, with Wotherspoon up, Adirondack could use some more defencemen

Loser move. I would expect this sort of lame duck decision by the Oilers. Come on Treliving this guy is a bum. Worse than Engelland, Smid or Diaz. Surely Treliving and Burke have to know this right.

Wotherspoon being called up replaces Gio for now with Potter still slotted as the 7th D. No need to panick IMO but if we are looking at bringing in a D I'd rather give up pieces that bring in a D that will upgrade or top 4 in thr long run rather than a twilight player like Allen who is a really weak bandaid at this point.

Really? I thought he went to the ECHL so he would get ice time and did very well.

I think some people are over reacting. An Allen addition is a depth move not a addition to the top 6. He probably would slide in tho the 10th dman spot if all were healthy. With Smid and potentially Gio on the shelf he would be a couple more injuries from playing. At the end of the day it is better to have an Allen type dman available in the case of a bunch of injuries happen and you aren't forced into a Brannon Evans situation.

Maybe something like Allen + 5th/6th rounder for Diaz?
