If its season ending we might as well kiss our playoff hopes away, and become full sellers at the deadline.

So what does "unconfirmed speculation" really mean? Probably no real basis for the season ending reference - just trying to stir the pot a bit. On the flip side, I'd less expect McKenzie to do something like that without support.
Listened to Treliving on the Fan this morning on the drive in, and it sounded like they know he is injured, but they are evaluating a timeline (that was my "read between the lines" version though)

Yeah all signs are pointing to it not being good.
If it's two days later and you still don't know it likely means it's bad and you're looking for more opinions.

This group is resilient as hell, not giving up on them yet. I think you have to seriously look at a Yandle though if he can be had without giving up one of the young core pieces.

Don't lose all hope yet. We still don't know how serious the injury is. Secondly we also may be underestimating how the rest of the team will close ranks and step up their level of play. Did anyone notice Backlund's comments with Loubo yesterday - he said that Gio was the "heart and soul" of the club and that he (Backlund) need to personally step up his game.
Rose coloured glasses on by intention.

If he is out for the season or even a lengthy period, it does ram home what we've all known since September, that we need to upgrade our top 4 asap. Problem is, how do we best go about getting a top 4 defenceman? Trading for one will likely cost too much, there are so few hitting the UFA market that getting one there seems unrealistic and we have no prospects currently who look capable of becoming a top 2/4 guy, plus any we draft now will likely be a couple of years away from being ready for the NHL. Be interesting to see how Treliving tackles this big problem going forward.

We look to draft and develop our own.
There is no quick fix unless we're willing to give up considerable assets, and whether or not that is a good idea at this stage is definitely up for debate.
Patience.

Derek Wills on Fan 960 just said "no update on Gio" - he says he thinks no news is good news - or at least not the worst news.

If Gio is hurt you let the kids fight for playoffs and pick up some depth/bodies for the farm. Trade Glencross for picks/prospects rather than a roster player (Stewart).
Best case the kids battle and make playoffs, worst case they learn some lessons and we see what they are made of.

This is sheer speculation but I'm a little concerned that no news = they don't know whether to do surgery and risk no playoffs vs. surgery shut him down and call it a night.
Or perhaps that they don't want his injury used against them in trade discussions.
Again I'm more freaking out than anything but I can't understand why the news would be so minimal if there wasn't something going on here.

I Have a bad feeling. I'm Wondering why they're keeping things so quiet? Management obviously know how serious or not serious the injury is by now.

I am obviously reading between the lines because Treliving is too smart to say anything - but it does not sound good. The language he was using and the hesitation in his voice pointed to it being very serious.
We will obviously find out in the next couple of days, and I hope it's an overreaction or I'm just reading into his language and tone too much, but my guess at this point is that it is season-ending.

Would Treliving and the Flames be using the cover of a possible Gio injury to secure the services of another good D-man - and then after the trade deadline is over Gio is back sooner than many thought.

Even if Gio is out for an extended period of time, the Flames will just need to strap on their work boots and out work their competition like usual.
From all accounts the Flames have an "easier" schedule coming up.
I'm still faithful...

Can you explain a little more? I am trying to wrap my head around how leading on that he is injured might help them.

I can't see that, as then other teams know, or think they know, that we are in a position of weakness regarding making a trade.
