I think Maloney said "everyone is in play" when asked, even about OEL. Now whether he actually is or not is another story.

Yeah. I really don't care either way at this point as I like what this team has accomplished this year whether they make or miss the playoffs and don't like the idea of overly tinkering with things that are working. I think Stajan and Raymond can both be serviceable players and the truth is fans are never happy so if these two players get moved fans will ismply shift their focus on the next guys they want the team to get rid of. It's a cycle.

Getting OEL would be lovely, but I think you're underestimating the difficulty of Backlund's role and the overestimating the ability of 1 of those guys ability to step in and do it as well as he does.
To expect 1 of those guys to go from AHLer to shutdown centre facing top offensive groups would likely leave a lot to be desired. Not saying they couldn't do it eventually, but I'd like to make sure they can before trading away Backlund.

In my completely uneducated opinion, I think the actual "insiders" get good information, but how they piece it together into something substantial worth reporting is highly subjective. ( Captain Obvious alert)
Many GMs have said that the ground work for trades is sometimes laid out months to a year in advance and it takes "get togethers" like the draft, GM meetings and the trade deadline to ignite those discussions.
If in fact ARI and CGY are talking trade like being discussed, I would bet it is more geared towards something at the draft or during the summer.
I just can't see the deals happening as discussed in this thread at such a crucial time of the season with the pieces required to make it happen.

I don't buy this rumour one bit. If you ship these guys out, you're basically saying good season guys but we are pressing the reset button for next year. Both players have more value to the team than they'd get back in a trade anyway.

Agreed ^
Raymond has played well, Stajan hasn't been himself since his most recent injury. Time to ship him out if you can get a good return, but I'd keep Raymond

It doesn't make any sense in trading two veterans who is still under contract for the next few years especially when the Flames is in a thick of playoff race. Unless the Flames are getting a couple of players who the Flames can play better than those two. I know offensively those two are not really contributing much but they can be rely on defensively. I can see them getting traded in the off-season maybe but not the end of the season where the team is fighting for the playoff spot.

Try not to think of a trade like this (or any trade) in a vacuum. What trading Raymond or Stajan does is open up a position on the roster either to be filled internally, or through another trade. I personally like the scenario where we move Raymond and Glencross, and open a position for both one AHL option, and taking on a veteran contract from another team.
If 2 left wing spot are open, we could see Granlund here full time, and trade for Grabner + a sweet prospect at the deadline.
So many options open up.

I would hope that Treliving is shopping those guys around. I don't think we'd get enough in return to warrant a trade, though. Unless we're packaging guys, in which case we'd be parting with something of value and I'm happy with most of those guys. So unless there's a blockbuster coming, which is highly doubtful considering the Flames' chemistry and team identity -- I expect Treliving to make only minor moves, if any at all. But then again, I wouldn't mind Kessel for a bargain. And if Gio's injury is serious then we're likely on the market for a d-man. But OEL strikes me as the "shooting for the stars" target.

Package GlenX, Stajan, Raymond, Wideman all in one package. This is what I call a rebuild in progress!

Whatever we do, let's not trade half our roster for half the roster of the Leafs. We've tried that twice before and it didn't work out that well either time.

I finally went over to see what the makeup of the Arizona team currently looks like and..... wow. They are not kidding when they say that they could use a couple of players with term. And considering the age of their NHL roster for the next year or so, I understand their interest in Stajan as a calming and teaching force, after what he has done in Calgary.
I would do Stajan, Raymond and Granlund + middle pick for Gormley, McKenna (backup goalie/AHL) if Don Maloney was willing to listen.
